Pedigree-syzygy Eclipse

Drove all night to get back to my telescope...

Pedigree released four separate outfits under the name 'Solo'.

This spicy swimsuit is one of them.

Too cold to swim? Oh pah! It's never too cold for a Genuine Sindy.

Pedigree launched six outfits under the title 'Casuals', fashion of the everyday variety, but still very chic. They were simply given a description and a number, no catchy name.

'Striped Skirt & Top' (43005) was exactly that. Plus a belt.

All these fashions were shoeless.

The shoes are the models own.

Sindy: You call it chic. I call it pizzazz!

Me: Pedigree called it casual. I upgraded it to chic.

Sindy: PIZZAZZ!

Me: Alright. Relaxed, yet with a zing. How about that.

Sindy: Snap!

(not mine) . Seen in a small French museum .

For "Smile on Saturday" ; theme : "capture the time".

It's always fun to see a back-to-back comparison.

Sindy changed a lot between these two years.

Green-86: Look at them over there. What are they, Hasbro?

Green-85: Yes, the Barbieish ones over there are Hasbro Sindy. Funny, I thought You were a Hasbro.

Green-86: Gasp! Am not! ... Sort of not anyway. I was designed by Pedigree but ultimately produced by Hasbro.

Green-85: Well that's what counts. You are a Pedigree then.

--

Red-85: Did you hear what the greenies said?

Red-86: What? Uh, yes.

Red-85: It feels good to be a Pedigree Sindy right.

Red-86: I adore you!! Can I touch your hair?

Red-85: What?

_______________

They are right in both accounts. Pedigree designed and launched the new face 1986 Sindy, but sold the rights to Hasbro later that year.

Speaking of, Hasbro Sindy is indeed waiting for their turn in front of the camera, over there.

From my garden.

São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

One by name, one by pedigree.

Pedigree Collection: The outfit came with these cool skis and poles.

The alps are rather flat this year, Sindy thought to herself. Must be the global warming. Ah well, cross country skiing is so lovely, gives one time to think.

A random skier passed her by and they nodded a brief hello.

Imagine that, she continued thoughtfully. I met the "random skier" in person. Something to tell the others at tea.

Pedigree changed the look on the Wardrobe 1976 by removing the legs and adding a decorative ornament up top (that I don't have). The previous etched golden trims was reduced to "just" paint and a less amount of it. It was sold with blue coat hangers like the one Sindy is holding.

Lovely Lively Sindy 1975 is wearing 'Dreamy Lace' 1976.

'Starlight' Sindy was sold with a basic body and side parted crimped hair in blonde or a dark brunette. The brunette had a green shimmering jumpsuit and green kitten heels, while the blonde had a red version.

The fabric used probably never got a proper "wear and tear" test since it doesn't answer well to any type of play.

My friend had this green version and the fabric started to flake almost immediately. This one must have been kept in a box.

I traded a doll like this from another friend back in the day. I put her head on an active body and gave her hair a trim and named her Camilla. So this obviously isn't her, haha!

"And that's all I have to say about that."

-Forrest Gump

Alice (left) couldn't believe her eyes when Tammy (right) approached her in the parking lot. Her hair had been trimmed short and not by a skilled hand by the look of it.

Tammy: Before you say anything, have you seen my little sister Pepper lately?

Alice: (Reluctantly) Yes... I'm awfully sorry about her hair...

Tammy: Oh don't be, it'll grow out, but do you know why she and your sister Patch cut it off?

Alice: They were being naughty? What happened to your...

Tammy: No. Some silly girls had been mean to Pepper at school and she wanted them to know she was a daredevil, just like Patch, so she cut off her pretty curls!

Alice: Oh dear! I'm afraid that won't do. Girls can be wicked.

Tammy: You got that right! That's why I cut off my own hair and now we're going to pick her up from school in your sports car.

Alice: How splendid! I'll crank up the radio real loud, 'Help' by The Beatles plays all the time.

Tammy: Haha, that will be perfect. Help is what the little meanies will need when we're done with them. Big sisters have no mercy!

Alice: Hop in and I'll make this engine roar!

I found a sad looking lot of Ideal dolls, the whole "Tammy family", in the Bay earlier this year. All females had their hair cut short and the whole lot were filthy. My heart swam over and here we are.

Lillibet can hardly take her eyes off of her black beauty. He is new at the stables and prickles his ears in every direction. There's so much to take in.

Peanuts is Sindy's first blackish (chestnut), unflocked horse.

Made in 1966. Hence the staring eyes.

Lillibet is wearing 'Pony Club' 1963.

Walking Sindy is the tallest of all the Sindy dolls and she could indeed walk. (With a little help.) Her legs swing freely when you hold her by the waist, giving the impression of walking.

She was sold in this cute three piece suit with mini-skirt, polka dot jacket and red sleeveless top.

The brochure showed red flat lace-up shoes, but Sindy wore red kitten heels like these.

Gloria: Ey? That sounded just like a camera shutter. But there's no one here. How peculiar.

Squirrel with Camera: Kekeke! I wonder how many nuts I'll get for that pic of a walkin' chick?

Glen the Squirrel had become greedy since he started working for the local newspaper.

Pedigree Sindy Pocketwise Fashions

Pedigree decided to make an "affordable" basic doll each year, starting in 1973. They called her 'Funtime' Sindy.

The 1984 model had a lovely 'housewife' sort of dress and white sandals. She was available in blond, brunette and auburn.

Me: Where are you off to in such a hurry?

Sindy: Oh, I thought we were done. I just made scones and was about to eat them when you called and asked me over.

Me: Ah! Do forgive me for trespassing on your scones time!

Sindy: Not at all! Why don't you tag along? I'll put the kettle on.

Me: Don't mind if I do.... Er, you didn't forget to lock the door before you left I hope?

Sindy: No, why?

Me: Well, we've had a few break-ins lately.. by little uns..

Sindy: Good heavens! The little Blythes!

We hurried out.

Personally I never touch the stuff as to me it tastes like tramp’s wee (or how I imagine tramp’s wee to taste), but when your better half is outside ordering the evening’s digestive challenge (chicken tikka Madras) one’s mind wanders into the arty side.

I expect you all to memorize this.

There will be a test later.

Seriously.

"Look at the size of this puddle! Hmm... what will it look like if I ran hither and thither in it? Will my wellies make it? Must know, must find out!"

Mum weren't overly joyed when she came home that day I can tell ya. Her wellies didn't make it.

Lillibet and her friend Ruby were at the stables in Weedy Meadow, a sleepy village just outside of Cooperstown. Lillibet's new horse Peanuts had just arrived and they were all eager to introduce him to us and the other horses.

Lillibet: Easy boy. Stand still and show them your beautiful mane.

Peanuts: Then we can run around and play with the other horses and ponies right!?

Lillibet: Wooo, still. Did you take the photo Ruby?

Ruby (behind the camera): I did. He looks gorgeous.

Lillibet: I think he has spotted your horse over there in the field. Perhaps you should go get her before this one decides to drag me there haha!

Peanuts: Excellent idea! Although I could drag you there if it's all the same to you.

Ruby: Haha, I can see that. Hold your horses... hehe, I'll be back in a jiffy.

Pretty much all pets in Weedy Meadow and Cooperstown can talk, though only very few of the Sindys can hear them. In this case, they hear nada.

Peanuts is Sindy's first blackish (chestnut), unflocked horse.

Made in 1966. I will address his history in more detail later.

Lillibet is wearing 'Pony Club' 1963.

Sindy was preparing a batch of Shortbread dough when she heard a tremendous racket from the hall and to her amazement a big box of shortbread biscuits entered followed by two little 'uns and a pony.

Cub: Hey Sindy!

Cubby: Look, we brought you some biscuits in exchange for some info. Are you interested?

Sindy: Goodness! That's one big box of shortbread. You must need a lot of information.

Cub: Well it was Barbie who said we should get the big box, due to your large body or whatnot.

Cubby: No I think she said chubby body. Or stout.

Sindy: Ah. *Ironically.* How kind.

Cub: I know right? Anyway, we have a very important question for you which Barbie couldn't answer, hence us being here.

Sindy: Does it have anything to do with that "stout" pony with a branch attached to its head?

Cubby: *Gasp* It's a reindeer, not a pony. And yes it does.

Sindy: *Hiding a smile.* Alright, ask away.

Cub: Did Rudolph go down in history? You know, like the song says.

Sindy: Why that is a good question. You could say the song about him did, but you know he's not a real... oh.

Cubby: Not a real what?

Sindy: Err.. music lover. Yup, never liked the song much. Or people shouting with glee. But he did go down in history.

Cub: Told ya Sindy would know! Barbie didn't know squiddly-doo.

Cubby: Hoorah! You hear that Sir Lancel... I mean little reindeer. Follow his hoofs and you'll be remembered forever.

Sindy: Shortbread anyone? My treat.

Sir Lancelot (the pony) has been known to dress up as a reindeer this time of year.

Pedigree decided to pimp Paul up a bit in 1967 and gave him rooted brown hair. His face is hand painted thus making us wonder where he's actually looking.

He was sold wearing blue jeans with yellow printed stitching and a red pull-over with a polo-neck and white sneakers.

I have renamed him Pete Best after the Beatles drummer.

This picture doesn't do her justice. I don't know if the dress is a Sindy or a clone, but the whole thing really works for her!

My poor lovely Audrey. Although the disease was first spotted in Pedigree dolls, and was named'Pedigree Doll Disease' it was soon noted that the condition could affect other makes of hard plastic doll and the name was changed to 'hard plastic disease' (HPD).

Although relatively rare, collectors of hard plastic dolls must be aware of the condition and be alert for early symptoms. There are several theories as to the reason the dolls can develop this condition - a reaction of metal to plastic, due to rusting of the metal eye pieces or joining rods, poor storage conditions - a damp loft or warm, moist conditions, high humidity or being stored in a plastic bag.

Symptoms of HPD include indication a smell of vinegar or acetone, small vertical lines around the nose, roughening around the wrists, noticeable loss of colour - especially in a limb, pink or red blotches on the head, small bumps. Eventually the doll will warp, white crusty patches appearing on the surface of the plastic and the the doll will ooze a brown liquid. The plastic is literally dissolving.

The doll must be isolated from other plastic dolls as the disease can spread.

So that is why Audrey stands in a broken mug in the corner, hidden from others by a large dolls house. She holds too many memories for me to part with her - my Dear Grandma bought her for me from a Scouts Jumble Sale in the early 60s - and I played with her for hours as I did all my dolls. Audrey was such a delight - shy but very sensible and everyone loved her. I still love her! I last posted photos of Audrey on Flickr 12 years ago - she had HPD then - so it’s taken some time for her to reach this stage. I think I’ll gently give her a wash and see how much longer she lasts. Unfortunately I am of guilty of keeping her for too long in the attic with extreme changes in temperature. Luckily the disease hasn’t passed to my other hard plastic doll, Sarah Jane.

Pedigree Sindy Fashion "Windy Day" 1963, consisted of a beret with a red pompom (there are versions of it being white) matching fringed scarf and muff all made from a fine bright blue wool.

Brow Pow, the local paper, tried to get an intervju.

This is Weekender Sindy's first fashion photo, and she has barely arrived in Cooperstown. Perhaps the lady would like to settle in before she addresses the people.
