Stairway to the Docks...and back.

The Dull Places set records the bits of urban desert that we take little or no notice of as we pass them in our busy lives..

There is a huge amount of student accommodation being developed in and around Grangegorman and Broadstone.

A new student accommodation complex is under construction off the North Circular Road, Dublin. It was vacant brownfield site.

The Broadstone Bus Depot is located to the east. Currently access to the site is from the North Circular Road and it would appear that there will be pedestrian access via a laneway from Rathdown Road.

The complex is adjacent to the DIT Grangegorman campus and in immediate proximity to the Cross City Luas line.

I live at Henrietta Place [or Bolton Street if I use the front door] and I frequently visit the Grangegorman college campus which is physically very close to my apartment but it a long walk to get there [about 20-30 minutes rather than about ten]. Recently a new pedestrian-cycle path was opened but I did not get the opportunity to use it until today and then I discovered that it is closed from the 21st December to the 2nd January 2019.

After a bit of online research I discovered that east-west walking and cycling access through the Grangegorman campus was opened to the general public in November [2018] but with opening hours that excludes rush hours.

The Grangegorman Development Agency said on its website: “The Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe TD officially opened the new link between Grangegorman and Constitution Hill this morning, Friday 16 November. This new link, while temporary, is historic, as it is the first time the Grangegorman site will link directly to the north inner city.” According the the Grangegorman Development Agency “It will be possible to walk from the campus to Bolton Street in 9 minutes. The Grangegorman Development Agency would like to thank the HSE, DIT, Dublin City Council, Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann, CIE, the National Transport Authority and Transport infrastructure Ireland for helping to make this happen”.

Some locals that I spoke to told me that access to the route will from 9am to 4pm [does not agree with notice at entrance] and one person, who was more than annoyed, told me that this limited access does not comply with planning permission requirements.

Nice bridge at BB. I wonder if MU's Public Works Director, Commissioner Beedit, has seen this one. haha, she probably has. She's at least TEN steps ahead of me! :P
