Thanks to Markus, who stood almost perfectly still for 30 seconds Especially since the waves were huge and that spot is quite scary.
Named due to their behaviour of turning stones over with their beaks to feed on insects, crustaceans, and molluscs. They are particularly well camouflaged and tricky to spot and photograph.

Sorry! I don't usually post grossly tilted photos like this one, but space was tight and people were in-and-out-and-around this vehicle that caused the view to be blocked. I'm sure I have better photos. It may be a while before I get to those photos because I have a huge backlog. Oh well!

Quite often, it's either boom or bust when it comes to sunsets on the Pacific Coast along the Monterey Peninsula. Sometimes a marine layer on the horizon swallows up the sun and day turns to night without any explosion of color. But other times, as on this particular November evening, the sunset produces a resplendent show for the spellbound spectators who are lucky enough to be on the beach at this time.
