This was basically how I looked as I jumped over the rail to grab my softbox light stand just seconds before it would fall into the water behind it. Luck...and agility was on my side this time!

This is my first attempt at a softbox lit photo. I recently received my Wescott Apollo Softbox 28'' in the mail and I have been eagger to try it out. One thing I learned this day is to always have a sandbag or two handy.

A shutter release transmitter is in my right hand.

My original intent was to capture a picture of me jumping over this puddle. Unfortunately I didn't sync the flash up to high speed so none of the shots turned out sharp enough for my taste. So this one will have to do...

Marinate In Large

A much better photographer than I talked me into joining a group he's in on here called Our Daily Challenge. Determined to come up with something awesome and bokehtastic, I was like, HELLZ yeah. Turns out the challenge for today was "Some Nice Words". I was like, ummm, how do I come up with some nice words? I thought of some cliche ideas, even thought really hard, then I looked down at my wrist to the bracelet I've been wearing for the last week.

See, I have a co-worker named Bob Scheller. Bob has a daughter named Clare, who graduated High School this year. Immediately after graduation, she turned up with an incredibly serious condition, Leukemia. She was admitted into the ICU where she stayed in a coma for over a month. A star athlete in school, she lost her leg before she even awoke from her coma.

Her friends and the community have banded together better for Clare than I've ever thought they would and have raised literally 10's of thousands of dollars behind the battle cry of "Fight like a girl".

Nicest words I could ever image to put up.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the group. Hope you like my thoughtful shot for today (and a lil bokeh because, well, who doesn't dig some bokeh?

Missing from this is my new Gateway EC1430u Notebook PC 11.6" which is being shipped as of this post. The best thing is that it will fit into the Lowepro Sling Shot.

I have received this Leica IIf in exchange for repair work that I have not yet completed, so it's kind of cheating to put it up here.

The photo itself is an experiment, trying out my brand new (ie, it hasn't been discontinued for TOO long) Canon 380EX flash and my (also discontinued) Canon XTi camera, with the flash off camera on a Pearstone TTL flash cord. So even though I've sold out to Digitalness, I'm holding true to my basic principles of preferring stuff that isn't made any more. At least the connecting cable is actually new....

I thought that I'd throw up a random photo that has been waiting to be uploaded. Something other than my recent birds. I miss this place so much, can't wait until I get up there again!!

This was one of the last nights I spent at my childhood home before I moved. The light from my house was lighting of the awesome autumn trees nicely. This was a merge of 3 photos that were about 4.3 minutes so it's about 13 minutes.

I just love the silence of night.

This is the timer I'm using with my DSLR. Its a Pearstone and cost around $50 thru B&H photo. There was also a canon brand version of this thing, but it was about three times the cost, and this thing has held up quite nicely as an alternative. I'd recommend it.

I bought two Craftsman toolbags for $3 each on sale at Sears Hardware. My plan is to use them to hold my camera remotes, lenses, flash, and whatever other photography stuff I accumulate.

Second row, from left to right: Lowepro 8x6cm lens case for my 40mm pancake lens, Pearstone ONYX 60 lens case for my 75-300mm lens, Pearstone ONYX 20 lens case for my 50mm lens, and a Lowepro 9x13cm lens case. I already have one of those, but it was a tight fit for my 75-300mm lens. This second 9x13cm case will be a spare for whatever lens isn't in my bag.

In the front row, left, is a Hoya 67mm UV filter for the 18-135mm lens I hope to buy once the price is right. Next is a Vello Bounce Dome diffuser for my flash. To the right is a 52mm Hoya UV filter for my 40mm lens.

basically experimenting with the camera's ttl controls and off-camera flash, something i haven't had the luxury of doing since i quit using my olympus OM2 and OM2S film cameras.

did you know that the Canon Rebels support high speed flash synch up to 1/4000 second? i didn't until i got this flash, which has the required long-duration setting on it.

These are nice pouches, but I don't use them. I use Pearstone cases from B&H because they offer more protection. Those cases also have a strong velcro strap that lets me attach the case to the handle of my camera bag if necessary.
