Taken from the American Club, town club. Part of the Hong Kong in Retrospect series. Counting my blessings No 13, some beautiful pictures and memories of Hong Kong.
The stones rest, unmoving, as time flows around them. The water, smooth as glass, mirrors the golden whispers of a distant town, stretching into the night like a dream unbroken. The sky, deep and endless, cradles faint trails of stars—silent witnesses to the slow breath of the lake. In this moment, all is still, yet the world keeps moving.

When twilight lingers on the horizon, the northern lights claim the sky, painting green ribbons across the Arctic night. Mountains cast silent shadows upon the fjord, mirrored in the still waters like a dream suspended between worlds. Stars pierce the darkness, and in this fleeting moment, nature writes its own poetry in light and reflection.
Exposure: 13 seconds | Aperture: f/8 | ISO: 2500.
Long exposure photography is essential for capturing the northern lights and stars in detail. At 13 seconds, f/8, and ISO 2500, the sensor gathers enough light to reveal both the auroras movement and the faint starlight without overexposing the horizon glow. This balance between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO is what transforms a dark Arctic night into a luminous masterpiece.
it was a calm night at plaça mercat in palma, and as i sat at the restaurant, this sweet dog at the next table caught my eye. he sat peacefully with his owner, and in one quiet moment, he laid his head gently on the table. the scene felt serene, and i couldn't resist capturing it. even in the midst of the night, this dog created a moment of stillness amidst the city's energy.

On September 7, 2025, a spectacular total lunar eclipse took place, also known as a blood moon. From Amsterdam, the moon rose already fully in Earth’s shadow. This meant that, low on the horizon, the moon immediately revealed its deep red glow. In this photo, the moment is beautifully captured: the moon seems to glow, with an orange hue along its lower edge and dark lunar seas and craters standing out more clearly in the softer light. Around the moon, stars and planets are visible that you would normally not see during a full moon, when its light is too bright. To the left of the moon, the planet Saturn can be seen, recognizable by its warm, light-orange color. Below and to the right shines the bright star Fomalhaut. Higher up in the sky, Altair from the Summer Triangle is also visible. A beautiful phenomenon: a rare alignment of moon, stars, and planet that can only be seen this clearly a few times per decade. The next total lunar eclipse will take place on New Year’s Eve in 2028.
On September 7, 2025, the moon rose over Amsterdam already deep in Earth’s shadow, glowing a coppery red in a stunning total lunar eclipse. Stars and planets appeared clearly around it — with Saturn glowing softly nearby, Fomalhaut shining below, and Altair high above — creating a rare and magical night sky.
It was a warm summer night, with a light breeze moving through the tropical air. The sky was clear, no clouds, just darkness stretching above. I wanted to try some astro photography, but in the city, light pollution makes it nearly impossible. The challenge was capturing both the well-lit pool and the starry sky in one frame. I couldn’t do it in a single exposure, so I took two: one for the pool, one for the sky, then blended them together.
I knew exactly where the full moon would rise and chose this location to capture the precise moment when it would touch the mountain ridge. I wanted to capture this dialogue between earth and sky, this suspended moment where the celestial body seems to rest delicately on the peaks. The choice of twilight was deliberate - I was looking for these purple hues that bring a dreamlike dimension to the scene. The intentionally refined composition, with the dark silhouette of the mountains, highlights the golden light of the moon. I wanted to convey this feeling of peace and contemplation that one experiences in front of this natural spectacle, while playing with contrasts to create an image that oscillates between reality and dream.
Buona giornata

This atmospheric night photo captures rugged rock formations under a softly glowing sky, with city lights twinkling in the distance. The scene is illuminated by a single bright light, creating depth and contrast against the natural landscape.

Beneath the veil of the aurora at Blue Hill Cemetery in Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Minnesota, a silent monument standsâstone and starlight bound by time. The night breathes color over memory, and the northern lights dance like spirits revisiting the earth, painting remembrance in hues of fire and emerald.

We did it! Now, it is January 4th! It's probably time to pack this up for another year or another family to assemble. What a fun time we had gathered around this puzzle! With two - three folks at a time, it can be assembled rather quickly. Great family memories!!!
In the quiet fields of Blue Hill Cemetery in Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, Minnesota, a lone monument rises beneath a sky alive with motion. The aurora sweeps overhead in shifting curtains of color, while the stone stands unmovedâan enduring witness to the fleeting brilliance above. In this meeting of permanence and ephemerality, the earth remembers and the heavens dance.
The Theme:
You know how you're sitting somewhere, and you find yourself staring at one object for a bit and everything else around it starts to disappear, its as if your mind completely erases everything around it and that one particular object becomes your key focus. Basically working with the idea of memory and your memory pattern. Its really up to you how you want to execute it. And the same way, it should stir strong emotion in the viewer.

Experience the enchantment of the desert after dark at Las Noches de las Luminarias, an annual holiday tradition at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona. This magical nighttime event transforms the Sonoran landscape into a glowing wonderland, where over 8,000 hand-lit luminarias line the winding garden paths. The photo captures a striking view of a towering saguaro cactus illuminated under the starry sky—its vertical ribs and monumental scale emphasized by dramatic uplighting. Surrounding the cactus are a variety of native desert flora, including agave, yucca, and desert spoon, each casting rich shadows that add depth to the serene scene.
Set against the inky twilight, the architectural elegance of the garden's design comes to life. The Desert Botanical Garden, founded in 1939 by a group of local citizens passionate about desert conservation, was designed to highlight the unique forms and textures of arid-land plants. While the garden itself doesn’t have a single credited architect, its layout is a masterclass in naturalistic landscape architecture—celebrating the raw beauty of the desert through thoughtful plant placement, subtle elevation changes, and pathways that guide visitors from one visual moment to the next.
During Las Noches de las Luminarias, the garden’s natural architecture is further enhanced by soft candlelight, live music, and seasonal beverages. The event offers a rare opportunity to see the desert come alive in a whole new light—literally and metaphorically. It’s both a romantic and meditative experience, where tradition and environment blend seamlessly.
Whether you're a first-time visitor or a Phoenix local, Las Noches de las Luminarias is an unforgettable way to experience the rich biodiversity, intentional design, and cultural soul of the Desert Botanical Garden.

Having the northern lights visible from central Copenhagen is rare but not impossible. With the current strong cycle, there are places in the city where it is possible to see the lights. These images are from one such evening in October 2025.
