Mitre street was the first paved street in the City. You'll find most of the city's shops there, including chocolate and handicraft stores, bars, restaurants, bookstores, music houses, galleries, travel agencies and much more. If you're walking down "The Mitre" then you are in the very heart of Bariloche.
The Civic Center of San Carlos de Bariloche opened in March 17, 1940. It was built by architect Ernesto de Estrada with cypress and larch wood, and tufa extracted from Mount Carbón.
Its architecture has European and North American influences, reflecting the surrounding mountains and woods. With its charming stone walls, wooden doors and Lake Nahuel Huapi in the background, it’s easy to understand why the Civic Center is the place to be for both tourists and locals. Large cultural and social events are held at its square.

The Agora of Perge within one of the most well-designed and planned cities of Roman Anatolian provides an example of this type through its plan and structural characteristics. The Agora positioned to the east of the Hellenistic Period Gate is surrounded by a wide stoa and there is a paved area surrounded by columned galleries. There are shops behind the galleries paved with ornate floor mosaics. Unlike the contemporary examples in Anatolia, the doors to the Perge Agora stores were arranged to open towards inside or outside alternatively. The entrances are in the centre of each of the porticos. The open area on the western side these structures was employed as a main entrance hall. Given the natural slope of the area, it is possible to say that the south side of the Agora was of two storeys.
The place termed the Agora (Bazaar) was subsequently called as the Macellum, as meat and fish as well as luxury goods such as perfume were sold here.
It was the second largest Agora in Turkey in terms of its size, consisting of three nested squares. The inner area measuring 51 x 51 m is of compacted soil. The tools of circular plan situated in the middle of this area could have been a temple, as at Side. However in the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) period, water pipes were placed in the walls around the tholos podium and consequently this structure is thought to have then been employed as an agiasma.

I write this with a heavy heart. The last couple of years have found me with a progressively debilitating spinal column and joint problems. If it were just me, I would never ask, but I have 2 young daughters that look to me for support, so I have to swallow my pride...
If you are in a position to help, I have setup an account to accept donations, even as little as the price of a coffee. Anything would be greatly appreciated. See my "About" page on Flickr for the link. Thank you.

The highway to hell is often paved with good intentions. This one came to mind as I thought it was fun and funny... Want to guess whose soul is being saved?
Taken on my photo platform.

Livin' easy
Lovin' free
Season ticket on a one way ride
Askin' nothin'
Leave me be
Takin' everything in my stride
Don't need reason
Don't need rhyme
Ain't nothin' I'd rather do
Goin' down
Party time
My friends are gonna be there too, yeah
I'm on the highway to hell
On the highway to hell
Highway to hell

The 3,558-acre Ned Brown Preserve—popularly known as Busse Woods—is one of the largest and most diverse locations in the Forest Preserves. The site includes ancient upland forests, one of the largest fishing and boating waters in Cook County, nearly 13 miles of paved trail, an elk pasture and much more—making it one of the best-used natural areas in Illinois.
When you see greater Chicago area on Google Map, the first thing that catches your eyes might be a huge green area just about 10 miles northwest of O'Hare International Airport. That's Busse Woods. I had long had a curiosity to go to this huge woods in the middle of the big city.
The longest trail in this preserve is a 7.3 mile loop trail, which runs through huge forest, along a high-traffic road, and by a lake. Because of the scale of the park, you might feel stray in deep forest and never be able to get out. However, on this fine autumn weekend day, the trail was so lively with many local people enjoying walks, runs, and bike rides. I didn't have a feeling that I was in the middle of a huge forest. I even had difficulty taking a picture of the trail without any soul in it.
(The first paragraph is cited from Cook County official site).
Welcome to Bercy Village !
Bercy Village is a paved courtyard bordered with white stone storehouses and quiet terraces. An architecture that combines stone with steel, wood and glass. The Cour Saint-Emilion and its 42 storehouses, which are registered on the French supplementary Historic Monuments list, are all that remain of the Bercy storage areas where, for over a century, the largest wine market in the world was held.

"Give me the clear blue sky above my head, and the green turf beneath my feet, a winding road before me..."

The Caribou Trail (County Road 4, and yes, there once were Caribou in Minnesota) runs from Highway 61 in Lutsen, Minnesota for a little over 17 miles into the Superior National Forest, ending at "The Grade" (USFS Road 170). Note that Google Maps still calls "The Grade" USFS Road 153 at this spot, but it was renumbered years ago).
Caribou Trail is a gorgeous road that is half and half paved and dirt. It intersects with several other gorgeous forest roads with fishing lakes and campsites along the way. It is one of several roads-named-trails that run up into the forest from Lake Superior.
"The Grade" at the end of the Trail is a major USFS road that connects you to dozens of National Forest Campgrounds and lakes. The trailhead for Eagle Mountain (the highest point in Minnesota) is also on "The Grade" and is very close to where the Caribou intersects.
Walking around the California Aqueduct. At this point, this side is paved, and the other side is a dirt trail.
On my last night in Costa Rica I went to a Hotel near Manuel Antonio National Park that I heard had access to some great habitat right next to the park. In order to get access you had to pay for the hotels expensive guided night hike. Well the guide we were supposed to have was sick and someone else showed up that didn't seem to know what to do. The other participants in the hike were mostly not dressed for any serious hiking so this guy took us only on a paved portion of trail near some wetlands. I was pretty upset to pay so much for such a lousy tour and to not even get into the good habitat. The guide at least let me go ahead of the rest of the group sometimes. I did find several of these pretty Red-Eyed Treefrogs. These are pretty common throughout Costa Rica and I have seen them many times but they are always a pretty site. This one was photographed in-situ as found.
Taken on top of Mt. Bierstadt at 14,065 feet. Off to the left hand side is Mt. Evans which has one of the highest paved roads to the top. This picture was taken right as a storm was moving in.

Jake has decided to take Photography as an 'A' level.
Somewhat of a surprise to me as I had no idea he was interested in photography!
His original is in the first comment box
He has a natural talent, although I've yet to see any drive/motivation ... hopefully early days!???
I don't see my role as being nagging aunt, however, a bit of encouragement via Flickr comments might help (although, there's stiff competition with the Xbox)
Most of our life takes place on wide, paved roads, often on real highways. Traveling these ways is fast, efficient and feels safer. But you're missing out on so much. You rush from appointment to appointment, from event to event or from vacation to vacation at top speed. And before you know it, there's hardly anything left of the trip.
I invite you to look for ways away from the main routes. Following the inconspicuous and hidden paths that are too easy to overlook, to live and experience more slowly and intensely.
You have to take care for yourself much more there, that's right. But awareness and mindfulness never were a mistake.
Life is full of wonders, surprises and amazing experiences. They are waiting for you to find them.
Unsere Leben verläuft meist auf breiten, asphaltierten Strassen, oft auf richtigen Autobahnen. Auf diesen Wegen zu reisen ist schnell, effizient und fühlt sich sicherer an. Doch man verpasst dabei so unfassbar viel.

The Col du Galibier (2,642 metres) is a mountain pass in the southern region of the French Dauphiné Alps near Grenoble. It is the eighth highest paved road in the Alps, and recurrently the highest point of the Tour de France.
Being lazy, saves me processing another photo... actually I'm going to cut the lawn before the sun goes down :-)
Tsukiyama (築山) or the artificial mound and Ike (池) or the pond are the two basic elements of Daimyou gardens.
Most of the Daimyou gardens install pathways to appreciate the changing landscape while walking. This style of Japanese gardens is called Chisen-kaiyuushiki (池泉回遊式) or Stroll-around-the-pond style.
This is a stone-paved pathway down to the pond from the Tsukiyama in Kourakuen.

She is a warrior, a warrior
Ain't nothin' gonna slow her down
She is a warrior, a warrior
Yeah!
Gotta get up and go, no matter the road
Gotta keep your head held high
Gotta keep on bringing, keep on slayin'
Gotta keep that pretty smile
But she's a-ready to battle
Ready to battle, gonna take that enemy down
She fears no evil, in holding her ground
She is a warrior, a warrior
Ain't nothin' gonna slow her down
She is a warrior, a warrior
She's taking this battleground
She is a fighter, a crier
She ain't gonna lose this round
She is a warrior, a warrior
Yeah!
She sees a way, when it ain't paved
Rubies or gold
She's gonna train her mind
Gotta keep her in line
Keep her eyes on the road
She's ready to battle, ready to battle
Gonna take that enemy down
She fears no evil, holding her ground
She is a warrior, a warrior
Ain't nothin' gonna slow her down
She is a warrior, a warrior
She's taking this battleground
She is a fighter, a crier
She ain't gonna lose this round
She is a warrior, a warrior...
