These seem to be more abundant than any other butterfly around here. I had them in my yard in New Mexico and they ate my Nasturtiums, so if you have any be mindful of the larvae it lays on the plant.
"In matters of visual form we sense that Nature plays favorites. Among her darlings are spirals...the spiral is the height of versatility, playing roles in the replication of the smallest virus and in the arrangement of matter in the largest galaxy"
~Peter S. Stevens author of Patterns In Nature Penquin, 1976, p.3
Cintia knizei cinta. Another example of my obsession with textures. Besides photographing plants I also dabble in making costumes. I have been pondering making a dragon costume that is inspired by plants. I could see this as a good texture on the legs. It's the kind of project that I'll likely never actually get around to making but every project has to start with an idea or spark of inspiration so who knows.

These open to a lovely four petalled yellow flower (sundrops / onethera spp.) I love the way the buds are topped with horn-like tips.
Kings Canyon is a unique and spectacular collection of landforms located midway between Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Areas of ripple rock like this are fingerprints left from a time some 300 to 400 million years ago when large ephemeral lakes and rivers were a feature of central Australia. The ripple beds were laid down in Mereenie Sandstone that was subsequently covered by other material which has since been worn away. The area photographed here was part of a larger specimen. Each of the ripples is roughly 10-20 mm wide and the area covered by the photograph is about 300mm on the long side.
