Day 183 of my 366 Project

The river of Tagliamento makes some wonderful scenes along its course. These are the broad scree fields near Venzone. The river course there is each year different. The picture was taken on the summit of Monte San Simeone.

At the end of my hike the light was just right for the sky to reflect into the water at the head of the falls.

Placopsis lambii on rock along Happy Panther Trail fairly near its end at the East Bank Trail parking area (trail starts at far west end of the lot and is simply marked by a post)

Works large

In Explore for July 19. 2022.

Pasted below are Richard Droker's comments on a photo from the same area last fall when the lichen were moist, not dry and cracking.

Beautiful photo of Placopsis lambii.

More than you want to know - this is a particularly interesting lichen with lots of terminology. Crustose lichens with lobate margins have "placodioid" morphology. The small salmon colored disks, "apothecia", produce fungal spores sexually. Numerous "soralia" by which the lichen reproduces vegetatively are present, but a bit hard to see (easier seen when dry). The larger dark structures, mostly in the center of the thalli are "cephalodia" which contain cyanobacteria that fix nitrogen as well as photosynthesize. (Green algae form a layer below the surface of the pale thallus.) To me a it is a splendid symbiosis including 3 predominent members belonging to 3 kingdoms (as well as many more unseen secondary fungi and bacteria). The Placopsis is growing over a dark lichen, possibly a Verrucaria species.

Cape May. Patterns along Beach Ave

Most random is the pattern of fallen leaves, but the brick colors look also somewhat random. iPhone 8+ photo.

This is a close-up B&W HDR photo of morning sunlight refracted through water in a wine glass onto the kitchen counter top. After transferring this photo to the computer, I was surprised to see that the shape of the shadow, and the pattern of light seem to portray the orgasmic energies of the body.

Settembre è uno dei mesi più belli, per i cambiamenti della natura e per i contrasti, fra una fine di estate ed un principio d'autunno... e le albe portano sempre due o tre versi di poesia.

Seen at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. Peacocks are amazing.

I was amazed at the pattern of the Great Horned Owl wings!

Remembering the slinky...and black lights!

Found this strange frost pattern on an ordinary window. At a cottage that has not been used for months

Every day patterns around London

This is a photo of patterns in the sand at Clam Harbour Beach created by the tide and water flowing in a shallow stream.

Peeling paint in a back alley caught my eye. Up close it resembled wriggling bacteria.

A refreshing atmosphere

Thanks to the sun the leaves made a beautiful pattern on this tree. I was relieved to finally made an image that met the monthly assignment of my photo club : "patterns".
