The Epiphany skete (Patriarch Nikon's skete) is located in the city of Istra in the Moscow Region and belongs to the Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery..This is a small four-level building on the banks of the Istra River, erected in 1657 behind the wall of the monastery, about 500 meters from the entrance to it. The church, the patriarchal cells and outbuildings are united under one roof.

Unlike the temples of the monastery, the skete is decorated very modestly - elegant tiles, window frames and cornices.

Originally, deserts were located on an island formed by the bend of a river and a channel connected to it, from which only a moat now remained. This place served the patriarch as a place of solitude for prayers and reflections. The interior of the monastery was not preserved.

Now the monastery is being restored, so it is still impossible to visit it, but you can walk around the monastery and see this unusual building.

"Court of the Patriarchs" ... (They are named for biblical figures Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) - Zion National Park, Utah

The Patriarchs are three neighboring sandstone peaks on the west side of Zion Canyon. Each is named after biblical fathers. From left to right (south to north) they are Abraham Peak, Isaac Peak, and Jacob Peak. Abraham Peak is the tallest at 6,890 feet. The white top of Jacob Peak rises behind the orange rock of Mount Moroni. The Patriarchs were named by Frederick Vining Fisher, a Methodist minister who ventured into Zion in 1916, labeling numerous prominent points in Zion Canyon. He decided to name these three peaks after Old Testament daddies, and the titles stuck.

This shot really needs a wide angle of which I do not have. I had to be creative and shot three portraits and then combined them for this unconventionally sized image.

The fresco "Salvation of the Byzantine Patriarch at Sea" is a plot from the hagiographic cycle about the miracles of St. Nicholas - one of the variants of miracles from the series "Saving a ship during a storm."

The fresco depicts the moment of salvation, when St. Nicholas delivers Patriarch Athanasius, who, before leaving on the ship, because of disbelief in the holiness and miracles of St. Nicholas, ordered Theophan to take the image of St. Nicholas out of the upper room.

It took me many hours to reach the reign of the pines loricati, at more than 2000 meters of altitude, in the "Garden of the Gods", a true natural garden with spectacular lush Loricato pine trees some, almost millenary.

The botanical particularity of the area is in fact the presence of the rare Pinus Leucodermis [pino Loricato], inhabiting the tallest and most unsteady rock ridges. Of Balkan origin, the presence on Pollino's massif is linked to the last glaciation when a "bridge" of ice approached the two sides of the Adriatic sea and facilitated its passage. The term "loricato" derives from the shape of the bark with irregular plaques resembling a cuff (called "lorica").

In the presence of these millennial giants, the emotion is strong, the landscape unique, beautiful scenery and the sensation of the annulment of time is felt.

Abraham is the father of the multitude, a biblical character: the son of Terah, the father of Ishmael and Isaac. Ancestor of Jews, Arabs and other nations. The first of the three Jewish patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, Jacob); the first to be called a Jew in the Bible (Gen. 14:13). In Islam, it corresponds to Ibrahim, the son of Azar.

In the New Testament, Abraham, along with Moses, is the most frequently mentioned Old Testament righteous man. The genealogy of Jesus is traced back to Abraham, the progenitor of all Jews: “The genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1).

In the Christian tradition, the image of Patriarch Abraham serves as a prototype of the highest piety and righteousness in both the Old and New Testaments. According to John Chrysostom, Abraham was the guardian and teacher of the faith and morality of his people among the pagans around him.

Cathedral of the Archangel Michael Mikhailovsky Zlatoverho monastery.

Just back from a lovely holiday in Madeira. I managed to get out a couple of times with the camera whilst MrsT relaxed and soaked up the sun.

I took this shot about half an hour before sunrise having climbed up to just below 6,000 feet in the dark with my head torch guiding the way. I had actually done a recce the day before so I knew the spots where I wanted to shoot. This actually meant leaving our hotel back in Funchal at a rather silly hour order to get up here before sunrise. But it was well worth it and I literally had the place to myself. It was great climbing up through the clouds and getting above them as you can see in the background here, you literally felt you were on top of the world..

I didn't get any mist or clouds blowing over the summit ridges as I did the day before on my recce. So there will a few more shots from here in due course showing a bit more atmosphere!

We spent two nights at Kiwi Saddle Hut to do a day walk up to Luna Tops. I only went as far as a gorgeous little tarn below the tops.

This is a three vertical images stitch panorama of the tarn with Mt Patriarch in the distance.
