Pathos, inhabited since neolithic times its Roman mosaics are considered among the most beautiful in the world. They include:
The House of Dionysos, dating back to the 2nd century A.D. The house is named “House of Dionysos” thanks to the many depictions of Dionysos, the god of wine.
The House of Theseus, also 2nd century, geometrical decorations as well as mythological representations.
The House of Aion, dating back to the 4th century, Five mythological scenes: "The bath of Dionysus", "Leda and the Swan", "Beauty contest between Cassiopeia and the Nereids", "Apollo and Marsyas", and the "Triumphant procession of Dionysus".
The House of Orpheus
Dating back to the 3rd century A.D Three mythological representations worth seeing, “ Orpheus and his Lyre”, “ Hercules and the Lion of Nemea” and “the Amazon”.
The House of Four Seasons
This house lies north of the House of Orpheus. It was named after the mosaic that represents the personification of the four seasons, which dates back to the first half of the third century A.D.

Pyrker alley (Upper Döbling), 1894 named after the priest and poet Johann Ladislaus Pyrker (1772-1847), abbot of the monastery Lilienfeld (1812-1818, Lower Austria), Bishop of Zips (1818 - Spiš/Slovakia), patriarch of Venice (1821), Archbishop of Erlau/ Eger (1827). His literary work includes historical dramas, Patriarchaden (epic poems from the Old Testament patriarchal history) connecting with Klopstock, as well as historical epic poems in rhetorical classicist style. His poems are marked by national pathos and religion. The street was originally called Plankengasse, then Park alley and later Promenade alley.

Mica is a female Patas Monkey (Erythrocebus patas). She arrived at Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre on 01/09/11 and it is estimated that she was born during 1992. She was smuggled from the wild for the illegal pet trade in Slovenia and ended up living with a family for 18 or 19 years before coming to Monkey World, where she now lives with a companion 'old lady' Patas Monkey called Sissy-Jo .

I recently attended a conference at Hayes Mansion in San Jose. It is one of those old plantation mansions that seems to have a long and mysterious history. The matriarch of the family, Mary Hayes Chynoweth, commissioned an architect to build this mansion after the original structure burned down in 1899. She died before it was completed but some say her ghost lives on in the house (some = me). You can still see pictures of the family around the house which just adds to the eerie appeal of the place. I would have loved to stay the night and see if I experienced any paranormal activity, but alas, it was not to be. I am a masochist when it comes to ghost stories!

This postcard is very nicely hand-tinted, but can't capture the nose-bloodyingly beautiful hues of yesteryear's Morning Glory Pool... but what could? No film could, no painter, no digital wizardry, not even the human eye could appreciate the delicate wonder that was the color of Morning Glory Pool. But then a bunch of people threw pennies and trash in it, and its temperature changed some, and the rangers had to pull all the junk out, and it's just never been the same. The pathos! Hearing the story of Morning Glory Pool is like watching a baby angel get beaten to death by some thug using a board with a nail in it. And the board used to be part of an outhouse. It makes my heart bleed, it does, to see the ruin that Morning Glory Pool now is, and to recall the indescribable beauty that is lost - lost forever, forever lost, due to the tragically careless actions of a few million tourists.
Ahem.
You will probably never read about Morning Glory Pool, in any context including this one, without the attendant guilt trip. In fact, the Old Faithful Inn used to serve a cocktail called the Morning Glory, which was mixed to have a lovely blue color like this. (They may still serve that.) I called that cocktail a Guilt Trip. I'd say to my brother - "Hey, I'm going to the bar, gonna have a Guilt Trip."
Don't get me wrong - it's genuinely tragic and infuriating that the pool was vandalized. I guess the story needs to be repeated for the Yellowstone-n00bs so things like it don't happen again. But Lordy, I get tired of hearing about that. The vandalism and subsequent cooling of the pool happened before I was born. I'm now middle-aged.

This past weekend I met up with my BFF and his family in Tilden Park to ride the miniature steam train. We used the kids as an excuse, but it was really us who wanted to ride the little choo choo that could. On the way down we stopped at an amazing vista point overlooking San Francisco and I made everyone wait an hour for sunset. The kids were running around, kicking up dirt while we were waiting for the right light to decent upon the city. All in all a pretty good day.
