Pasar malam is an Indonesian word that literally means night market, "pasar" being related to "bazaar" in Persian.
It brings together a collection of stalls that usually sell goods such as fruit, vegetables, snacks, toys, clothes, movie discs and ornaments at cheap or at least reasonable prices.

The pasar malam, or night market in Malay, is something that is rather unique to the local Singaporean culture and has similarities to other pasar malams in neighbouring countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
Over time, it has sadly become more challenging to sustain due to rising costs and a smaller pool of young people willing to take up the hard work, but it is also constantly evolving at the same time.
