Inauguré pour l'Exposition universelle de Paris en 1902, le pont était destiné à symboliser l'amitié franco-russe, instaurée par la signature de l'alliance conclue en 1891 entre l’empereur Alexandre III (1845-1894) et le président de la République française Sadi Carnot.
The Pont Alexandre III is a deck arch bridge that spans the Seine in Paris. It connects the Champs-Élysées quarter with those of the Invalides and Eiffel Tower. The bridge is widely regarded as the most ornate, extravagant bridge in the city. It is classified as a French Monument historique.

The Aphrodite of Milos (Greek: "Αφροδίτη της Μήλου"), better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient Greek sculpture. It is believed to depict Aphrodite (called Venus by the Romans), the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It is a marble sculpture, slightly larger than life size at 203 cm (6.7 ft) high. Its arms and original plinth have been lost. From an inscription that was on its plinth, it is thought to be the work of Alexandros of Antioch; it was earlier mistakenly attributed to the master sculptor Praxiteles. It is at present on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris.

据法国舰长杜蒙-居维尔的回忆录，维纳斯出土时的双臂还是完整的，右臂下垂，手扶衣衿，左上臂伸过头，握着一只苹果。当时法国驻米洛领事路易斯-布勒斯特得得知这个塑像出土，就赶往伊奥尔科斯的家中，打算以非常高的价格购买此这个雕像，农民奥尔科斯同意了他的要求。但由于他手头没有足够的现金，就只好派居维尔连夜赶往君士坦丁堡报告给法国大使。法国大使听完汇报后立即命令秘书带了一笔巨款随居维尔连夜前往米洛洽购女神像，却不知农民伊奥尔科斯此时已将神像卖给了一位希腊商人，而且已经装船外运。居维尔当即决定以武力截夺。英国得知这一消息之后，也派舰艇赶来争夺，双方展开了一场激烈的战斗，混战中雕塑的双臂不幸被砸断，从此，维纳斯就成了一个断臂女神。

My great uncle served in the Merchant Navy during the 1920's.
Here we see the football team of the Reardon Smith (St Just SS Co) cargo ship 'Paris City', presumably the first XI at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1925. I have no idea of the names, but would be ideal for any genealogist.
Noted they have changed their strip since the earlier 1922 photograph at Santos.
A game of football would be just what they need after an Atlantic voyage.
Paris City was registered in Bideford, as can be seen from the lifebuoy. Additionally, somebody else is peeping through the porthole.

Severin of Paris ,a devout hermit, lived on the banks of the River Seine during the first half of the fifth century. The oratory which was built over his tomb became the site of a small Romanesque church which was built around the eleventh century. As a result of the rapidly expanding community on the Left Bank, it was decided a larger church was required. The new structure, built at the beginning of the thirteenth century in the Gothic style, had a nave with lateral aisles. An additional aisle on the south side was built in the early 14th century to accommodate the growing congregations from the nearby university.[1]
