Twenty-five 4-H youth ages 8 and up learned beginning sewing skills while constructing a pillow at the "4-H Pillow Party" sewing workshop on Feb. 9, 2019. Youth brought their sewing machine, sewing supplies and choice of fabric.

4-H'ers learned how to cut and measure fabric, use a pattern, use an iron to press open seams and how to thread and sew using their sewing machines. Adult volunteers and parents guided youth through each step.

Locally, the 4-H youth development program is a partnership between Nebraska Extension and Lancaster County government. Learn more about the Lancaster County 4-H program at lancaster.unl.edu/4h.

The Thread Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending child abuse. It was founded with a dual purpose in mind: 1) to provide comprehensive information regarding Houston child abuse prevention, intervention, and treatment resources; and 2) to reach out and encourage individual and community participation in ending child abuse. The organization assists the Houston, TX community in getting involved by providing a central website that includes easily accessible resources and links to several Houston child abuse services and family support services. The Thread Alliance also provides parenting classes that can assist in the care and treatment of abused children.
