It's a good idea to have parents on hand so over-excited kids can rush back for a bit of re-assurance before embarking on fresh bursts of hyper-activity.

It should be understood that we were not invited to Michel's birthday party, and we did not gatecrash it. It was, however, happening alongside us in the only place in Saint-Laurent-des-Arbres that was open to serve food the evening we made an overnight stop in the village.
