It was so wonderful having my parents visit in such a troubling time, its been so long since I have seen them.
The March 2014 cover of PARENTS captures the essence of the centerpiece article, “The Future of Play,” which describes how toys are becoming even more imaginative and interactive. Photographer Thayer Allyson Gowdy experimented by shining lights through overlapping panels of colored Plexiglass to create a futuristic—but still familiar—look that is reinforced by the 3-year-old cover model’s clothing and hairstyle, as well as the Lucite chair. The handwritten coverline echos the line drawings in the article and the theme of the personalization of play. This cover is a noteworthy departure from our typical covers shot in realistic environments.
Parents and guardians attending the Parent Academy had the opportunity to hear administrators describe the new PARCC test implemented this year to assess student’s development in language arts and math. The PARCC assessment test is used to measure the effectiveness of the Common Core curriculum established to teach real-life application of language and math skills necessary for college readiness and future employability.
