Parco Ciani

A short walk from the lively center of Lugano lies the Parco Ciani, a destination for many tourists who come there to admire what is considered one of the most beautiful Swiss parks.

Overlooking the lake and, with an area of 63,000 m², this is the Lugano green heart of the city of Lugano. Thanks to its enviable position within walking distance from the city centre, Ciani is the place where the locals and tourists relax, strolling in the shade of century-old trees. The paths meander amongst beautiful flower beds, adorned with statues and fountains, winding through well-kept English style lawns. The park is conceived into two areas. The first one near Villa Ciani, can be reached from the main entrance, at the end of the lakefront. At this point the garden’s characteristics are part Italian, part English: wide flowerbeds alternate with bright green lawns, trees and bushes from all over the world. The second area goes from the dock up to the river Cassarate and is “wild” and features local plants; in fact, there are oaks, lime, plane trees and sycamores: all of them are typical of Ticino’s woodland. Within this wooded area there is a children’s area with a playground. Inside Ciani Park there are also several buildings: Villa Ciani, the Covention Centre “Palazzo dei Congressi”, the dock, the Cantonal Natural History Museum and the Cantonal library.

I started going through my archive lately and decided that I would give a chance to non-365 photos as well. Since I started the project, I may have uploaded a 5% of photos outside of it.

This one was taken when it was still warm, and you could chill and have a coffe outdoors.

"Located on the shores of Lake Lugano, this 63,000 square metre park constitutes the city’s green lung. Here you can recover from the hustle and bustle of the city as you walk along paths lined by magnificent centuries-old trees. " (My Switzerland)

This one was taken at the local park, the only one we have in the city. It is really small if compared to other parks in big cities, but it is nice and offers some unique opportunities to take photos.

The Planar 1.4/50 is not the sharpest wide open, but a great lens nonetheless.
