Taken more than 3 years ago but I was reminded of this image when a fellow Flickrite included one of my umbrella pictures in his "Les Parapluies de Flickr" gallery (thank you Robin Maurice Barr) and I started thinking about other umbrella pictures I've taken over the years. I remembered this autumn day in London when it was absolutely hammering down with rain and there were umbrellas aplenty so in a nostalgic moment I went back and looked at some pictures from that day. This was one I never posted but looking at it now I do like the mood and atmosphere created by the mono conversion and the look on the young girl's face.

Agra (Inde) - Dans tous les pays émergents, rien ne se crée, rien ne se perd, mais tout se récupère. Cette photo illustre cette nécessité pour les Indiens de tout recycler. Non pour des raisons environnementales, mais pour des questions financières. Ici, l’homme répare les armatures métalliques d’un parapluie. Mais l’ai aussi vu dans le quartier des artisans spécialisés dans le remplacement des rayons de roues de vélo.
J’ai pris deux photos de cette scène. La seconde est moins impersonnelle car l’homme me regarde et m’offre un radieux sourire. Mais pour l’aspect documentaire celle-ci me semble plus adaptée.

Agra (India) - In all emerging countries, nothing is created, nothing is lost, but everything is recovered. This photo illustrates this need for the Indians to recycle everything. Not for environmental reasons, but for financial questions. Here, the man repairs the metal frames of an umbrella. But I also saw it in the neighborhood of craftsmen specializing in the replacement of bicycle wheel spokes.
I took two photos of this scene. The second is less impersonal because the man looks at me and offers me a radiant smile. But for the documentary aspect, this one seems more suitable to me.
