A place to relax after a long, fantastic walk. The windows of wooden house show a glimpse of the beauty outside, just before getting in for a hot drink.
It was really worth it.
Located on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Paramount Theater operated as a movie theater from 1931 to 1974, reopening in 2004 to present live art performances as well as films. There are a number of other shots of the theater on my photostream, but I decided to add this one as well.
The Paramount Theatre, located in downtown Austin, Texas, opened in 1915 as a vaudeville house, becoming a movie theater during the 1920s. It was restored in the 1970s and now offers live performances as well as films. The marquee had included a vertical blade sign until the 1960s, and in honor of the theater's 100th anniversary, the blade in this shot was installed last year. Information from the theater's website.
Seen in the outdoor part of the commercial section of the Motor Show at Birmingham NEC in October 1986 is this very early Plaxton Paramount III demonstrator built on a Bedford chassis.
The Paramount Ballroom, also known as Paramount Theatre (Chinese 百樂門 Bǎilèmén) is a prime example of preserved Art Deco architecture in Shanghai. The Chinese name means roughly "Gate to 100 Pleasures"...
It was completed in 1933, designed by the Chinese architect Yang Xiliu. It lay just off Bubbling Well Road (now Nanjing West Road) and was a meeting place for the wealthy elite of the Shanghai society - and also the elite of Shanghai's underworld. The most famous of old Shanghai's late night hangouts with music into the morning and drinks flowing freely.
The Ballroom lasted under its original owners before going bankrupt in 1936. In 1937 it was converted into a taxi dance hall featuring Chinese dance hostesses, which it remained until 1949.
Closed at the revolution, it was re-opened in 1956 as "Red Capitol Cinema" featuring the usual propanda movies. Again closed in the Cultural Revolution it became defunct and dilapidated.
In 2001 it was restored by Taiwanese investors and re-opened as ballroom. Due to lack of revenue some floors were converted into a disco in 2006 and only the forth floor ballroom remains in original style.

this sign is irresistible, and i'm sure it's been photographed a thousand times, often much better. what i like about it is that it even catches your eye during the daytime, and on a dreary morning like this was, the paramount sign's colors can put a little pep in your step

We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.
We want to thank you for your interest in our work and thanks for visiting our work on Flickr, we do appreciate you and the contributions you make in furthering our interest in photography and on social media in general.

The Paramount Theater when it was being renovated. It was closed many years and was under some kind of renovation a couple of times - I remember in 1980 going in while it was closed and a couple of guys working on it said they were going to make it into some kind of studio. That never happened. Now it's been redone and is part of Emerson College. This was probably in the early 2000's.

These Plaxton Paramount Tigers with Cleveland Transit always looked like they were sitting really low down to the ground, but it was an optical illusion caused by the extra 'hedgehog' brushes that were fitted round the wheel arches and along the bottom of the lower panels. Were they doubling up as road sweepers when they were back home in Middlesbrough ?
Following the takeover of the firm by the Stagecoach group, this was one of around 15 coaches that were 'part-exchanged' with Delta Coaches at Stockton, in return for them giving up their bus service work, with around a dozen life-expired buses going the other way.

My recently restored Ex Barton Plaxton Paramount bodied DAF MB230 is seen here at Dublin port about to go on the ferry to Holyhead to go to Showbus 2016. I restored this coach over the last year for the event and this photo was taken once daylight was just on the horizon, the Seatruck ferry can be seen in the background.
