This is a shot I took while walking with an old compact digital camera (the Ricoh CX1, released in 2009) that I hadn't used in ages; I struggled a bit with the settings along the way.
While shooting, I was feeling just how difficult street photography can be.
Just as I thought, "Oh, there it is," I’d run into challenges—like someone walking right in front of my subject and overlapping it.

Another shot from my forest walk at the weekend, and I grabbed this one when the fog had receded enough to reveal more of the trees. The endless recurring pattern of unadorned vertical trunks worked well. No easy task, though, to avoid obvious overlapping of trees and maintain some separation.

Midday on the Texas Gulf Coast at Port Aransas, where shallow, clear water rolls in as neat, repeating bands. The sand ripples glitter in the swash while distant ships and summer cloud towers line the horizon—simple, quiet, and unmistakably Mustang Island.

The tapestry of time, where threads entwine,
Parallels weave a story, a rhyme divine.
Echoes of the past, a whisper in the ear,
A bridge that spans the ages, without a fear.
In ancient lands of wonder, where myths unfold,
A mystic mirror reflects, a story yet untold.
The paths of heroes, warriors, and sages bright,
Converge with ours, in a celestial light.
The threads of destiny, a tapestry so fine,
Interweave the moments, a rhyme of time.
In every era, a chorus sings the same,
A harmony of hope, a refrain of love's flame.
The whispers of the past, a wisdom yet to share,
A knowledge that transcends, the bounds of care.
The parallels of time, a mystery to unwind,
A journey through the ages, where hearts and minds entwine.
In this great dance of time, we find our place,
A part of the tapestry, a thread of human pace.
The parallels of time, a story yet untold,
A rhyme of hope and love, that echoes through the ages old.

Venturing out into a snowy night is like stepping into another world. The sharp-edged noises of urban life are muffled under the blanket of freshly fallen snow creating an ethereal atmosphere like a window into a parallel universe.

So far winter has evolved into a series of freeze-thaw cycles. Winter storms dump heavy snow followed by warm days that melt it all down. This is an observation rather than a complaint. Honestly I prefer having winter served up in bite-sized pieces. I've experienced the other kind where harsh winter weather locks down for weeks at a time. There's a real mental beat-down effect to unrelenting cold and storms. So this way is much preferable. The transition phase is the most intriguing to me. Winter storms leave vast stretches of virgin white snow in their wake. The kind of snow epitomized in a white Christmas sort of way where the beauty of snow outweighs the downside. It conjures up images of sleigh rides and people skating on woodland ponds in the tradition of a Currier & Ives print. Nothing but winter fun! But that effect begins to dissolve the moment warmer weather moves back in. Scenes such as this are far more typical; a gritty looking landscape of half melted snow, and grimy looking heaps left by snowplows. Frozen snow and liquid water often coexist, and the result is a sloppy, muddy mix that (almost) makes me wish for the return of arctic air. I was struck by the moody, shadowy quality of the snow melt as I walked along this country lane. The sky and utility pole reflected eerily in the water, every bit as grim as the scene before me. No Currier & Ives skaters to be found. Just the echoing blast of distant hunter's gunfire. And the last gasp of the feeble December sun. A perfect winter day.
Thank goodness for the digitalization of slides as this one sucks on the big screen. I'm not going into all the details but CV ran a short lived trailer train service that hauled finished lumber from St Albans to an unloading facility just north of Palmer, Mass, where the trailers were driven to customers in southern New England. Here train number 244 rounds the curve at Millers Falls where the track parallels the double track Boston & Maine main line.
