Archie the bald eagle was hatched in a Canadian forest 1988, just days before a serious fire raged through the forest. Firefighters struggled to control the blaze. Lucky for Archie he was rescued by forest rangers and taken to the Thompson Zoo in Manitoba, Canada. Here he was raised by hand, and now imprinted on humans, the decision was made by the Canadian authorities that he could not be safely released back to the wild. It was then he came to Paradise Park in Hayle, Cornwall. Now at the age of 29 this magnificent eagle continues to happily live his days at the park.
The bald eagle is a bird of prey found in North America. A sea eagle, it has two known subspecies and forms a species pair with the white-tailed eagle. Its range includes most of Canada and Alaska, all of the contiguous United States, and northern Mexico. It is found near large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply and old-growth trees for nesting.
The bald eagle is both the national bird and national animal of the United States of America.
The hooded parrot is a medium-sized parrot, up to 26 cm long, weighing 50 to 60 g. The male has a black head, bluish-grey beak, dark-brown irises, and its wings have a yellow patch. Its upper-parts are brown, its lower parts are turquoise blue, its back is brown, the tail is olive green tipped pale blue, and its legs are pink-grey. The female is a dull-green parrot with a grey-brown head and pink undertail coverts. Juveniles are similar to the female.
The male hooded parrot can be distinguished from the similar looking male golden-shouldered parrot mainly by the absence of a pale frontal band, a larger yellow patch on the wings, and absence of the red on the abdomen. The female is very similar to the female Yellow-shouldered parrot being identified by the absence of a pale frontal band and an absence of red on the abdomen.

I took the Twirly Camera out to the Zigzag River a couple of weeks ago, and made a 1.5 second exposure on a bridge at the Paradise Park Trailhead. The sun was almost shining, as it sometimes does in the pacific northwest, and a little dappled light flitted among the branches. I almost destroyed the film when I opened the camera back, thinking that I had used the last picture, but had not, then I almost destroyed it while loading it on the reel in the darkroom, and then almost destroyed it by forgetting which step I was on while developing it. I got two usable pictures out of 6. That's a 1/3 success. I'll take it.

One of the last photos I took across from the Bed & Breakfast where I stayed while in Hawaii last month, before driving north around the island on the way to the airport. Aloha to Hawaii for at least another year! I have a feeling I'll be going to Hawaii every February or March. In 2025 I plan on going to Oahu.
Right now I'm getting ready for my upcoming trip to Japan in two weeks. 4 days in Tokyo, 4 in Kyoto, and 4 in Osaka! This will be my second international trip and my first to Asia!
