For the group "Macro Mondays" with the theme "The Eye of the Beholder", we were supposed to find something we thought was beautiful, but which other people might not think was so beautiful.

As it happens, my paper towel rolls, in my kitchen, are on a vertical stand, in front of a window. So many times, when the evening sun comes slanting through the window and hits the roll of paper towels standing there, I would notice how the sun made the inside of the roll glow a little, and how it would emphasize the shapes and lines of the rolled towels, on their edges. I always thought it was pretty, and fascinating.

So I decided to show that.

The sunshine had to be simulated because it has rained all week! Also, I emphasized the layers of light, using color in the processing. But here it is... a look at the top of a roll of paper towels, with the light shining through the outer layers.

HMM everyone!

Another paper towel roll shot. Weird.

192/365 Goofing around with a paper towel roll during a break from weekend housework. It was one of many breaks. Did I ever mention I hate housework?

After a visit to Mercado de Abasto, we walked along Av. Corrientes to Riobamba, headed for the Water Company Palace.

On the way there was much street activity to entertain us. We did not try one of his sandwich creations.

When I dropped an empty paper towel roll Bella swooped it up and ran around the house with it. She finally traded it for a piece of turkey. Such excitement LOL

Creating displays for craft show using recycled materials - paper towel rolls, oatmeal container, cardboard from a Caprisun box, newspaper & masking tape. They are weighted down with gravel, so they should be windproof. To be covered in paper mache and painted. Can you tell what they are supposed to be?

These are recent samples I made for the Mitchell Museum of the Native American. A new exhibit showcasing Northwest Coast art will be on display til the end of March 2010. This craft uses totems taped onto empty cardboard rolls. Children that visit the museum are allowed to color and make these and take home.

The book I used to photocopy the totems out of was "Totem Poles to color and cut out- Volume 2 - Tlinget" by Bellephron Books. The book has superb totems on each page, which I reduced to size and made many copies. This will be an easy children's craft for the next 2 months, as the museum just opened a Northwest Coast Art exhibit.

Here is my first attempt at molding cardboard tubes into sculptures. Its challenging to get it to turn out right. I made a face with an empty toilet paper roll, and then, 2 days later, a body from a paper towel tube. What I have here is a staggering / lurching monster. His hands are up ...and he has a baggy suit on...thats what I see at least. Actually, I see "him" as dancing to Elvis Presley's "Jail House Rock" in that fabulous movie scene. Maybe I should paint some strips on his top.

I painted each tube with irridescent acrylic paints and then I hot glued the head on to the body. I still have to figure out what to do with this...hang it or make a wire stand for "the monster". I might glue on black hair...and I think glass beaded eyes would do him justice.

Little girl using household item as musical instrument

I think I took these and developed them close to two years ago... very old. I actually have two of these pictures up on flickr. :)

Woot woot, made it to 700 photostream views.. thank youuuu

I took another paper towel from the roll this morning and saw, from the embossed name, that I'd put it on the holder upside down. Should this worry me? Should I worry that it does worry me? These are the questions that flooded in after this simple observation 😟

The Our Daily Challenge group has chosen I have never shot one of these before as today's topic.

You were expecting the Man?

I don't keep every paper towel roll I exhaust, but when I keep one, I give it to my kitties to play with.

Found under "Recycling Projects" on Patricia Zapata's blog, A Little Hut.

One of my neighbors actually has a bag in her home where he/she seperately recycles cardboard paper item rolls....this amuses me somehow....

My wife prepared a homemade coconut cake today. I snapped a few pictures. I snapped this picture as my wife took a picture of the cake with her phone. Didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped, but is interesting.

Jacob was watching tv and I was playing around with a cardboard paper towel roll.

Cleaned cleaned cleaned the bathroom yesterday.

Timed out to play with the roll of paper towels.

Boom. Paper towels. Even the cardboard roll in the center is awesome.

I see my friends improving their photography skills by leaps and bounds. I don't feel like I'm keeping up. My photoshop skills have progressed quite a bit, but I still can't take a good portrait to save my life. I know - practice, practice, practice. In the meantime, I remain a poser, a fauxtographer.

I have found the code! Now I just have to get out of here alive!

Photo was taken with a paper towel roll covering the flashing, pointing about a 90 degree angle off the camera.

...won't you please let me in?

...and I've even brought my own beer. Won't you just let me in for a second? I promise I won't bite. Much.

Again playing around with a cardboard paper towel roll. The first few I took I just had one of their eyes peeking through the hole but I like these two much better.

Think she's getting sick of the paper towel roll experiment? Yeah. This time, I cut the roll.

He likes to chew on old paper towel or toilet paper tubes.

Robin saw her doctor today and it looks like at least two weeks on the crutches, unless she magically heals faster. We will have to make an appointment with the orthopedist to make sure there is no hairline fracture in there. She went to her first cheer practice, which was hard for her because she wanted to be up there with the team practicing and not sitting alone on the trampoline bored and feeling awkward. One of the moms owns the house with the amazing Christmas lights display we saw last year, but apparently they’re moving, so I guess that was the first and last time we’ll see that light show. Bummer.

both the bunny and the dog love paper towel rolls. they still stay seperated but love each other muchly.

I am not sure where this came from, but something in me told me to pick up my camera and start taking photos. It happens from time to time. Most of the time I turn the camera on myself when I do. I didn’t this time. For some reason when I grabbed Betsy (my camera) I set the focal length of my lens to 100mm. From there I started shooting and over the next 6+ hours, I took 100 photos. And these are the photos.

This is very unexpected, because two days ago I said I wasn’t going to post anything until one of three things happened. 1: Job / 2: 365 days project / 3: night out with friends. In any case. Over the next 5 days I will be posting 20 photos a day from the 100 that I shot. Other than a few rotations and resizing them all, I did no other edits. They are as they were taken.

Please enjoy.
