This is a small section of a cardboard egg carton! HMM :-))

Egg carton detail for the Smile on Saturday group, challenge: Recycled.

An egg carton can be made of various materials such as recycled newspaper and molded recycled paper pulp by means of a mechanized papier-mâché molding process.

This is shot from the premises of Mookambika Temple, Kollur, Karnataka, India.

Female doll was seen in Mangaladevi temple but not in this place, Kollur and Udupi.

Though its a temple dedicated to Goddess as with Mangaladevi temple here I saw a pair of male dolls only.

Shot at Udupi in 2011.

Gaarudi Gombe in Udupi seems to be rich with colours and decorations while the ones seen in Mangaladevi temple were very simple.

The doll is made up of bamboo sticks and paper pulp. A person fits himself into the frame from the underside and performs the dance carrying this huge structure on his shoulder. Provisions are made for the performer to see the outside world through an opening in the frame. Due to the heavy weight of the dolls to be carried, most of the performers are men.

I could not post this till date as I was not knowing what it was & did not think of checking this in internet all these days.

Gaarudi Gombe / Tattiraya or Magical doll from Karnataka, India

The previous upload was HE doll and this is its pair.

This dance is performed during major festivals and also in the procession held during the festivities.

According to a legend, this dance was performed even in the times of Mahabharata. It is said that when the Lord Krishna's wife Satyabhama was angry with him, he soothed her anger by wearing a Gaarudi Gombe doll.

Gaarudi Gombe is a folk dance prevalent in the State of Karnataka, India. Dancers adorn themselves with giant doll-suits made of bamboo sticks.

Gaarudi-Gombe means magical-doll in the native language, Kannada.

This is also known as Tattiraya in the coastal Karnataka. Tattiraya means a person carrying a doll made of bamboo sticks.

THIS IS SHOT IN FRONT OF MANGALADEVI TEMPLE, MANGALORE.

I HAVE BEEN SEEING THESE DOLLS KEPT IN THE PREMISES OF TEMPLES IN UDUPI & KOLLUR EVERY YEAR I VISIT IN PAST 6-7 YEARS BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS FOR. I SAW IT IN DANCE IN UDUPI THIS TIME BUT I DID NOT TAKE MY CAMERA ON THAT DAY.

To know what is this I had to spend around 30 minutes in internet googling but worth it.

Jute sticks, considered an agricultural waste, can be used as raw material for a number of ancillary industries. At present, however, a substantial portion is used as fuel, fencing and thatching; only a small percentage is being used in the manufacture of jute boards. To commercialise the use of jute sticks, therefore, the possibility of providing an alternative fuel to the cultivators could be investigated. The scope of this paper to discussing the feasibility of utilising jute sticks in the paper industry. In this context, the quality, availability and economics of paper manufacture from jute sticks vis-a-vis conventional raw materials has been studied. Further, on the basis of experience gathered from manufacture of paper from jute sticks on a commercial scale at the Paper Pulp plant some suggestions have been put forward to make the jute sticks system economically viable.

Franklin VA, 31 May 2015, late afternoon, 2013 waits her next job,but look at that NOSE! So ugly that only a power hungry road like CSX could love her! She is a former B&O GP-38, but what is she now? Look at those roof flashers! Then there is the Transfer caboose! This set-up is probably for switching the paper plant.

Chuck Close created this portrait of a family friend, Phyllis, through a range of carefully placed disks of paper pulp to form a tonal image of her face. He stumbled upon these circular forms when excess wet paper pulp he had used in a separate project accumulated and hardened on his studio floor. With this discovery, he had more of the forms manufactured and in the collages that followed he used them to create these massive-scale and highly textured portraits from a broad palette of grays. 'Phyllis' is Close's final work made with this method.

Charles Thomas ('Chuck') Close, an American painter/artist, printmaker and photographer, is globally renowned for reinvigorating the art of portrait painting from the late 1960's to the present day. Most of his works are large-scale portraits based on photographs of his family, friends, himself, and fellow artists. His works hang in the world's most prestigious museums, and he is considered to be one of the most influential people in the art world.

Close was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2000. Today he lives and works in New York. This unique work was seen and photographed on display at San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA).

These cool letters are created by pressing newsprint paper pulp into plastic letter shaped molds. The letters are left to dry and then decoupaged with vintage sewing patterns using Mod Podge. The letters measure between 2.5" and 3" high. The letters are connected by large staples and the hanger is heavyweight natural covered floral wire.
