Macro Mondays: Inspired by a song
Paperback writer by the Beatles
This song was written bij John Lennon and Paul McCartney in 1966. Paul got the idea for this song and was inspired by the Penguin paperbacks.
Taken for the #MacroMondays weekly assignment. This week it was "Inspired by a song" And who else but the Beatles?
Thought i was going to see tons of lyrics, I haven't so far, here is mine
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?
It's based on a novel by a man named Lear,
And I need a job,
So I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
It's a dirty story of a dirty man,
And his clinging wife doesn't understand.
His son is working for the Daily Mail
It's a steady job,
But he wants to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
Paperback writer, paperback writer.
It's a thousand pages, give or take a few.
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I could make it longer if you like the style.
I can change it 'round,
And I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
If you really like it you can have the rights.
It could…
"Paperback Writer" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles. Written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon–McCartney partnership, the song was released as the A-side of their eleventh single in May 1966. It topped singles charts in Britain, the United States, Ireland, West Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Norway. On the US Billboard Hot 100, the song was at number one for two non-consecutive weeks,
I made this, a sphere of tiny pages of words hanging by a thread.
With last week's theme about complementary colors/colours, I downloaded library books about art and hues. One book entitled Playing with Books, by Jason Thompson, caught my imagination for this week's theme. With the exception of slicing my finger with the x-acto knife, I simply followed Thompson’s brief instructions. And getting my old sewing machine to sew through paper layers.
I adore words and have written, edited, and done layouts as a career since forever.
Please note: Each circle comes from an obsolete book no one wanted: not libraries, used book donations, or charity. I used to think that books deserved a good home. Apparently we have too much of everything. As someone told me as I called around to check about donating clothes and books, We can’t take them, he said. No room. Next stop will be mulch for other purposes. Trees! That’s one reason I download online books.

Paper .
For this week's challenge I have taken a shot for the paper challenge by presenting books old and new -especially as it was " World Book Day " on Thursday 02/03 2023 . Traditional books are made with paper pages of the print bound in this case with paper covers ie Paperbacks . Coming up to date there are now electronic devices like these Paperwhite versions that will hold many books in their memory and are easy to hold . They are not so good as a real book for non-fiction in my opinion for illustrations , diagrams , maps and so on ( bit like sat-navs , they are never a match for a paper map where you can see the bigger picture instead of a very close small section - and I have never got on with the voice telling me where to go when I want to go another way and after 2 attempts that voice has never spoken to me again ). I digress , the Kindle for fiction does provide convenient storage and is lightweight to hold and then again the purists will always say there is nothing like the feel of a real book and a turn of the page - I will leave you to make your own decision .
And now it is time to go On Story Teller's Night .
Finally received a proof for the papberback version of Riverwalk.
It's pretty swell. Stay tuned for links.
Macro Monday - Paper
If there is one thing that the Macro Monday challenge does for me is to try new things....I was 'researching' for some ideas for this weeks challenge and saw this crafting idea of folding the pages of an old paperback book. Obviously to maintain the 'rules' I had to 1/4 an already small paperback ..... but at least I can now make two !!! The principle is actually very easy albeit time consuming and this size a bit fiddly....... but I loved the finished article. It measures 2.5" wide x 2.25" tall and 2.75" long.
Can’t go out to take new photos, so cheerfully revisiting some old ones. One of my favourite places in Melbourne: The Paperback Bookshop, Bourke Street. A rainy spring night in 2012.
