The small pantry by Jenny

Originally, only the top shelf was there. It was meant to be a broom closet, but it was awkward for our needs. So I squeezed the broom between this cabinet and the fridge and made the cabinet above this the place for other cleaning supplies.

 

This cabinet is 1' deep and a little bit over 5' high.

 

Up top are small baking things, peanut butter sandwich supplies, and cans for my husband to grab because bad things happen when he goes into the big pantry.

 

The second row is Ramen noodles, which my children believe is the food of the gods, and the currently opened boxes of cereal.

 

Below that is my booze and vinegar--basically, anything that is or was alcoholic that I use to cook with. I have white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, rum, vodka, sherry, white wine, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, rice vinegar, dark rice vinegar, rice wine, and more.

 

This shelf also has other sauces that I don't refrigerate, like soy sauce.

 

Below that are the fats and oils--walnut oil, palm oil, Crisco, olive oil, sesame oil, peanut oil....and more. The syrup hangs out there, too, along with the vanilla bottle that's too big for the top shelf.

 

On the bottom is rice--that's basmati, and there's a matching jasmine rice box that was still shoved in the main pantry when I snapped this picture. And, of course, this is where my husband's whey protein hangs out.

A few weeks back I discovered a new website called The Perfect Pantry. It prompted me to organize mine. So far I've kept it tidy but filled with junk for the kids lunches etc. I do have rice and pasta mixes but you can't see them from this angle.

This requires tiptoeing and a lot of care or else a stepladder for me! What's up here are a few cans, a bag of chips, and all the different light bulbs for the house.

 

Shelf 8 is empty right now all the way around, but I'm going to put the rest of the cereal stockpile there. It doesn't fare well out in the garage.

Along the wall is a row of distilled water jugs. These are our emergency water supply--being on a well, if we have no electricity, we have no water--and also go in the steam mop that you see in the foreground.

 

On the wall is an extendible duster, a Swiffer duster, a Swiffer mop, and a dust buster, which is plugged in below. Our mop is kept in the laundry room, and our broom is in the kitchen, between the fridge and the little pantry.

 

There's a work light here because the light socket stopped working. I need to call an electrician to fix it.

 

The baskets on the walls are currently empty. Sadly, they didn't end up working for onions, citrus, and potatoes. (The baskets were $2 each from Target's bargain area.)

This shot is taken from inside the pantry, up over the little hallway that leads to it. The hall is one of the few places in the upper levels of the house with 8' ceilings. The "attic" of the hall is accessible from the cathedral ceiling of the pantry.
