These are small vintage threads, a very old panic button (origin unknown), all on a light box, with crumpled foil in the distant background. Studio lights, tripod, the works. About 2 inches across/5 centimetres.
Panic used to be my middle name.

NB. Last January 2022 I asked for help and a Flickr support hero removed my account from the Explore algorithm. I feel more peaceful.
Don't Panic is a phrase on the cover of *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy*, by Douglas Noel Adams.* The phrase and book originated in 1978 as a BBC radio comedy before becoming much, much more.
An old sewing machine needle supports the old button with two vintage buttons behind it. The Panic button measures less than .75cm /0.3 inches. Fun lens! The streaming or expanding light is deliberate ;-)
*Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English author, screenwriter, essayist, humorist, satirist and dramatist who died far too young!

this is definitely a bit over the top-- it does say PANIC, tho !!!
macromonday- sticky...... given a "sticky situation" one could save the day by hitting the panic button, thereby frightening away the intruder, eh?

"You panic button collector
You clock of beautiful ticks
You run out the door if you need to
You flock to the front row of your own class
You feather everything until you know you can always, always shake like a leaf on my family tree and know you belong here
You belong here and everything you feel is okay"
- Andrea Gibson
I gave you one of these last year...........but it's worn out and doesn't work any longer. Here is a new one. Try not to hit this button so hard, or so often.
51/52 - 52 Weeks of 2014. "Contre Jour."
Well, this hasn't exactly been the best week to attempt a "contre jour" style, or "against the day," type of shot, with days being a bit shorter, and weather has not exactly been cooperative some days. Throw in a few obligatory appearances at some Christmas parties this week, and basically I have had to hit the figurative "panic button" on this theme and used artificial light. On second thought, there have been many times when I have hit that panic button and come up with images which I feel could have used some more forethought or work on my end.
No tripod, hotel room ambient lighting... this time shot with long exposure using a 50mm 1:1.8 lens with macro filter attached. Yes I was bored :-)
The title was inspired by The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, where the words "Don't Panic" appear in large, friendly letters on the cover. :-)
As some of my visitors have subsequently pointed out, looked at in the right way you can see a sad face in this image... and that face is oddly reminiscent of Marvin the paranoid android from the cult BBC TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (see in the comments below for a link to an image where you can look for yourself). I didn't compose the shot with this in mind - I just wanted a picture that focused on the panic button on the key of my rental car... but it's funny how these things sometimes come together when you least expect them.

I've been feeling slightly panicky lately... the other day I had my keys sitting out on my desk and that "panic" button really resonated with me... :)

I have this button on my computer just in case. I have had people ask me how it works but I'm not saying.

While on the recent Bando de Kvar ( www.flickr.com/groups/2472126@N24/ ) outing to the Liberty Village district on downtown Toronto, Ontario, we wandered Northward on Western Battery Rd until we reached the stairs leading to the King Liberty Bridge across the railway tracks. Rather than a strictly brutalist type of stair well up to the bridge, in a nod to improving the aesthetics of the stair well, a large mural/graffiti featuring flowers has been painted on the interior surfaces. Placed on the wall at ground level there was a panic button should an unfortunate situation arise. However, it seems a little lost amid the graphics. - JW
