After stealing my cousin-in-law's shoes in the jhoota chupai, a tradition performed by the bride's sisters and cousins. My cousin does not have any sisters, so my sister and I stole our cousin-in-law's shoes and hid them. I think this rasm was originally performed to prevent the groom from leaving without the bride, but nowadays, it's done to get money from the groom.

I am negotiating the amount of money with my cousin-in-law! I was nice and warned him the night before that we planned on stealing his shoes, so luckily, he was prepared!!!

The little pathan girl was wearing lipstick all over her face and she had such a cute smile.

With my cousins and aunt at the walima ceremony, a reception thrown by the groom's family, celebrating the marriage of the bride and the groom.

This section looks almost like a lake but its the Handrap river.

Ghizar river at Phundar - summer 2005

And the story begins...

Here is photograph of a short Wedding Rasam (Traditional Ceremony) in which the Groom holds a date in his fist and the Bride tries to open the fist and take that date.

The Groom almost always loses ( He can't let his now wife lose can he ? )

The Groom's now inlaws demand for a gift if he loses , a way for the siblings and cousins of the Bride to tease the groom and enjoy

Some traditional moments captured at a recent assignment. Here the mother of the groom passing on a family heirloom to the bride. Traditional transfers like these have deep roots in our culture which make it one of the most exciting cultures in the world.....

It was a while ago when I watch a documentary on Nat Geo about this traditional Iranian game. While visiting Iran a month ago I noticed these wooden weights at old cafes and some pictures of wrestlers or say weightlifter. Just yesterday I discovered that this game is played in some areas of Pakistan including Chach (attock) and Haripur.

The game is called Mungali Pherna. How is it played? Well the weightlifter lifts the wooden mungali of his choice of weight and circulates it around his body, picking it from front, moving over his head and taking it to his back and then bringing it to front. Alternatively picking up two on both hands and revolving them like a fan. Rules? I think one hand and one mungali, 2nd you don’t drop it, 3nrd you don’t rest it on your body for more then a second while moving it around. It a game of sheer power and technique because the most heavy (65 kg and as big as the lifter) Mungali was lifted by a old baba jee

Details that deserve to be captured.....
