A rainy drive to lunch with my parents around San Jose, CA. A pair of weather systems had sent bands of showers into the Bay Area, bringing another dose of precip to the region recovering from 3 years of drought. But unlike the many atmospheric rivers that drenched the Bay Area over an epic 22-day span in late December and January, these storms were nowhere near as intense. Forecasters said the rains were to fall from Friday-Sunday. After a decent lull in the storms, it’s good to finally be getting more rainy weather. By Sunday morning, scattered showers and a chance of t-storms were possible throughout the day. For us here in the South Bay, it was a good cloud-watching day with brief downpours as spotty cells drifted in from the northwest throughout much of the day. Gotta love this weather indeed! *Weather update: 7 months into the 2022-23 rain season, San Francisco had received a full season’s worth of rainfall, according to meteorologists. A quarter of an inch that fell in the morning & early afternoon on Saturday put SF over the top by 2 p.m. It brought the total precip during the current rainfall season — July 1 to June 30 — up to 22.89 inches, according to meteorologist Jan Null of Golden Gate Weather Services! All this rain (and snow) so far this rainy season is really putting a dent to our drought at last. Much more rain was still needed to completely remove our drought here. Let's hope for more storms!

One of a pair of images that I took outside the Tower of London. Trying to capture the atmosphere of foreboding and fear that the tower holds for every Englishman, and the incredible 1000 yr history before your eyes. The focus of the shot was to isolate the skyline and see the silhouette. Cant make my mind up whether the colour or monochrome works best.
Looks like disaster struck this pair, looking at the feathers all over the nest site implies that their signet met with an untimely death recently! I know they were sitting on eggs earlier this summer!
This is the 7th pair of boots that i have built. Four row stitch pattern two red and two orange. Any and all comments are definately welcome.
Always nice to finish a bash with an oldie, and I was spoilt for choice with E112 and 116 following each other on the 147 into Canning Town.
I chose the latter, and the pair are seen on their stand at Canning Town. Note the AL Merton codes still on both. 17.12.24.

A pair of Azure Damselflies in their post mating coupling, this pair were sheltering on a plant on the Grantham Canal towpath and they allowed me to get close enough for a few decent shots. The only problem was the blustery conditions, I had to wait for a lull in the wind to get these shots. I was also using diffused flash for these shots in aperture priority, it does seem to give a more vibrant colour at times. The female on the left doesn't look like she's too happy with the whole affair :o)
After mating the male remains linked to the female and this lasts during the ovipositing process. The male is basically protecting the female from any unwanted advances by other Damselflies. I would like to know if the male selects likely the sites for egg laying as he appears to lead the pair in flight or is there some form of mutual decision making or is it all up to the female?
I have just read that Damsels will stay linked like this for quite a while prior to mating, it is to do with the fit of the males claspers on the thorax of the female, it was described as a lock and key scenario, if the key doesn't fit well then the link up won't make it to mating :0)

Laughing Gull courtship behavior is usually a vociferous and conspicuous ordeal. There are the usual displays between the two in the pair, along with loud calling and mounting of the male by the female. This image represents the mounting behavior that occurs between the male and female after the displays between the two are complete.

This is a photo taken for the Red Gate photoclub assignment "pair" I cannot decide if I prefer the vertical or horizontal one, so I am asking your opinion.
The vertical one could have been sharper, but I was too lazy to get the tripod :-(
