Floris was put to sleep by the vet. 16 years old. He could not go on like this. He lost a lot of weight and strength and the inflamation of his nose got worser and worser .This was caused by a polyp in the nose against the eye socket that couldnot be operated. The antibiotics didnot work anymore. There was no longer any prospect of improvement.
The inflammation had become very bad. He was on painkillers the last two month.
De dierenarts heeft Floris laten inslapen. Net 16 jaar oud.

Hello all lovely Flickr friends.
Back after a month with my son, who has incurable cancer. The chemotherapy is helping for a while, and we have had wonderful days.
I'm having my next knee surgery in a few days, and during the painstaking rehabilitation I probably won't be able to be active on Flickr.
But I'm back in the spring again.
Paracetamol is a common painkiller used to treat aches and pains.......it comes with Two sheets of Side Effects !!

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.
Black and white re-edit of a shot from May 2019.
Today, 16th May 2023, marks the 10 year anniversary of my street photography journey.
Looking back at my older images it is clear to me that my confidence soared over that time to captured the images that I have been able to take.
There have been almost countless memorable moments throughout that journey. From the lows of one single encounter where I was physically assaulted, to the highs of photographing Emeli Sandé and undertaking my art on a national advertising campaign for one of the international top five companies, and all points in between.
While I am saddened that the pandemic has put a massive damper on my passion, I have continued to take street photography images throughout every one of those years, though obviously there are far fewer these past few. While the pandemic still rages it is not the primary reason keeping me from street photography today. Nor is my recently fractured foot.
I may share the reason in the coming days but either way, know that my passion for street photography remains as high now as it ever was.
It is you, all of you, that follow and enjoy my photography here on Flickr that have made every single moment special. Without you it would still be worthwhile but you make it special. I am honoured and humbled by each and every comment, favourite and view of my work here. Some of you have even followed me here for the whole of those 10 years! I am profoundly grateful to you all, beyond the measure of words, and many wonderful friendships have been made.
I raise a glass of water and some painkillers to the next 10 years.
Thank you all, each and every one. Stay safe.
Seen on an estate...perfect place to get away from it all for awhile.
So glad you stopped by, thanks very much!...Pat...xo
I can do awards and invites again even with the splint; I''ll explain below:)

I had wrist surgery on Jan. 5, bones were realigned and a plate inserted to keep them in place. After one bad night of sleeping, I'm good to go...even drove today on a couple errands (not on painkillers, that's why). Have much more flexibility and much less pain than the previous two weeks...now it's on to therapy!

Joey found another way to get to the rooftop, much to my chagrin. We heard him fighting with another cat in the backyard of our neighbor right behind our house. I was worried should he get injured as his vet had once warned me that Joey's kidneys may not be able to handle meloxicam painkiller injections anymore.
I was forced to walk to my neighbor's house, introduce myself and sheepishly ask my elderly neighbor if he would let me look for Joey in his compound. By the time I got to the backyard Joey had already jumped back into our property.
I found him relaxing nonchalantly on the roof tiles and he wouldn't budge until I returned with his favorite treats. 😑
Suffice to say, I have decided to ground naughty Joey indoors until I figure out how to keep him from climbing up our aviary cage. That's how he was able to end up on the rooftop.
For the record, the last time Joey was on this rooftop was in July 2020, when he didn't come home for the night. He was sickly back then and I thought he had gone off on his own to die. 😔

The Helenium in my garden is almost over now, but it's still beautiful to me. I'm already looking forward to seeing it next summer, when I hope I'll be able to enjoy it more.
(In the last couple of days I've reduced the painkiller medication I'm on, just a little bit, and I seem to be coping so far. I'm finally beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel, which is a huge relief. Thanks to all my friends on Flickr for bearing with me.)
Joey's first "outdoor adventure" in the garden. I remember I took multiple shots of him from this particular angle and this is one of them.
Looking back, I wish I had raised him as a strictly indoor kitty as he would have been safe from getting into trouble. Joey's outdoor exploits were responsible for his visits to the vet and he always ended up getting meloxicam or metacam painkiller injections.
It was only years later that I discovered that these drugs have an adverse side effect on feline kidneys in the long term. Our vet back then never told us about this and I found this the hard way. 😢

A stray butterfly told me not to worry!
She told me to be light, to camp wherever the flowers grow!
She advised me to follow the colors, build the cocoons,
fast the whole life and break the fast on nectar
no blood no sugar no painkillers.
Then she warned me about the swamps.
I told her I don't know what a swamp is?
She landed on a small flower and smiled at me..
I didn't hear her after that.
she was swallowed up by a frog who thought himself a king.
he also swallowed a flower.
whereupon the swamps began to appear.

So I am just back from spending 6 hours in the emergency department. Not an ounce of sleep has been had yet but I expect to drop soon.
I fell asleep on a chair and woke at 3am with a completely dead leg. I decided in my infinite wisdom that I could still walk only to discover that my toes bent backwards and my body weight crashed down on my right foot. There was an almighty crack and a crunching sensation, one that I know from past experience, followed by a brief period of nausea.
I have fractured the base of my 5th metatarsal which, as fractures go, is one of the least concerning that I have had though this is the same foot where I have had 3 extensive ankle surgeries and now sport some screws and lots of artificial polythene ligament. The top of my foot is like a small balloon and looks like a paint-by-numbers set.
I've had my painkillers, which were sorely needed, and I'll be keeping my foot in the air for a couple of days to get the swelling down. Otherwise, pain permitting, I need to continue with 'moderate' weight bearing activity for the 6-8 weeks it should take to heal.
Lesson learned. Don't try to walk on a completely dead leg! On the plus side I didn't feel any pain at all at the instant It happened. That came on quite rapidly afterwards though.
Stay safe my Flickr friends. Virtual bunches of grapes and healing vibes are always welcome.
Phellodendron amurense is a species of tree in the family Rutaceae, commonly called the Amur cork tree. It is a major source of huáng bò (Chinese: 黄柏 or 黄檗), one of the 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine. The Ainu people used this plant, called shikerebe-ni, as a painkiller. It is known as hwangbyeok in Korean and (キハダ) kihada in Japanese.
It has been used as a Chinese traditional medicine for the treatment of meningitis, bacillary dysentery, pneumonia, tuberculosis, tumours, jaundice and liver cirrhosis.
Amur cork tree fruit oil is a pressed oil extracted from the fruit of Phellodendron amurense. The bark of the tree is an important herbal medicine in China. The oil has insecticidal properties similar to pyrethrum. The oil contains a variety of biologically active substances, including flavonoids (diosmin), alkaloids (berberine, jatrorrhizine, palmatine), saponins, and coumarins. Medicinal applications of the oil include treatment of pancreatitis, reduction of cholesterol and sugar in blood and the treatment of various skin diseases.

After Mollie's visit to the vet, it was advised that she had a few days of bed rest and quiet time to help heal her poorly foot. Sadly Mollie is on steroids for her lung allergy and is unable to have painkillers, so its a 10 day supply of antibiotics and hope for the best!
This is a shot i could not resit taking, as she looks so sorry for herself and is being comforted by Charlie Fox !
Loosely based on these lyrics from Judas Priest's Painkiller -
Planet's devastated
Mankind's on its knees
A saviour comes from out the skies
In answer to their pleas
Through boiling clouds of thunder
Blasting bolts of steel
Evils going under deadly wheels
Today a sheep with a very difficult birth,
Called the vet,
It was too complicated, the twins didn't make it.
it has taken hours to help her
with the mother goes to circumstances, reasonable.
I want to say that, to be a farmer,
Not always everything goes well.
and there are moments of sadness .
Greetings all the Farm animals

Archaeologists exploring a cave in Spain in 1935 found baskets of poppy capsules laid beside human remains dating back to 4000 BC. On a 3,000-year-old statue from Minoan Crete, a Poppy Goddess statue wears an opium poppy headdress. According to classical Greek myths, poppies flowered along the banks of the River Lethe which flowed to Hades, and from which the dead had to drink to forget their former existence in the world of the living. Its petals are the colour of blood, and the opium poppy is a source of morphine, a powerful painkiller which made the physical agonies of war more bearable, and which was a derivative of opium.
I thought I'd play safe today and practise with my Lensbaby by sittting on my stairlift to capture this . I can't say whether or not it's clear enough though because of the heavy duty painkillers...

I had a dental procedure done this week that had me lying low and on painkillers for a couple days so I had to delve into my archives. (I'm completely fine, just a bit of a baby about pain.)
Long ago, Jimmy and Mack had a neighbor arch nemesis named Dirt. So they spent most of their time outside on Dirt Alert.
Jimmy and Mack were never the kind of brothers that groomed each other and cuddled but they often kept in close proximity to each other when outside so I think they gave each other confidence.

Thank you everyone for my get well wishes. I had a good day today without much pain, whether it is because of the painkillers or the fact that my arm is in a sling. After a day or so, I think I will be able to do without painkillers altogether.
I will be in looking at your photos, but can't leave comments at the moment.

A previously unpublished shot from October 2017. I almost never shoot from the hip so this was through the viewfinder though sadly I wouldn't be able to crouch like this for a shot now. I can barely stand some days for the pain in my back. I'm still waiting for my physiotherapy referral to be actioned. Until I know more I'll just keep popping the painkillers and resting up when I have to. Stay safe all.

One could not really claim that the accident had been a light one. But it certainly had been less serious than one would have expected according to the rules of physics and probability.
Now that the fog had almost completely disappeared from her brain, she remembered clearly: the narrow road, the hairpin bend in the cone of her headlights, her stepping on the brake. She didn't know exactly how long she had been sitting in the car afterwards, which after a (only one?) rollover had come to rest on its wheels just off the road. Had she lost her senses? What the pain, oscillating between throbbing and stabbing, reminded her of every second was the impact of some object flying through the passenger compartment. It had hit her practically at the same time as the realization that applying the brake did not have the effect that was generally desired.
As it turned out, the car had remained operable. She had driven off in a trance and, despite the late hour and without brake, had gone to see the old and odd doctor who was said to be on their side. And he had indeed grumbled rather unkindly, but had set to work without asking any questions, bandaged the bleeding head wound, given her painkillers and other drugs as well as a number of warnings and instructions. Completely abstaining from alcohol was one of them.
And now, after choking down more tablets dissolved in a little cognac or at least a liquid vaguely reminiscent of cognac, she actually felt more or less restored. At least she would be able to receive the final and crucial batch of information at the agreed upon time.
As always, she switched on the device a few minutes early, let it warm up, routinely made the necessary settings and put on the headphones. Irritated, she then realized that she had no idea what the rhythmic beeping that reached her ears was trying to tell her.

Fox Grape It has antispasmodic, antiallergic, sedative, mild narcotic effects. Here are the benefits of fox grape:
It relieves rheumatism and joint pain.
It softens the chest and helps stop coughing.
It is a sedative and painkiller with mild narcotic effects.
It is diuretic.
It is good for insomnia.
It relieves bladder spasms.
It is applied to wounds in the form of a poultice.
It contains atropine, which is a deadly poison when taken in excess. It shows symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and weakness.
A recent spot of "automotive maintenance" has apparently left me with a "trapped nerve" - there is nothing apparent about the pain though. Consequently sleep is hard to come by even with an assortment of painkillers and a "tens" machine.
According to the doctor "these things" generally sort themselves out in 6 to 8 weeks. I hope its quicker than that as this is the most painful thing I have experienced and it just goes on and on. The painkillers take the edge off but only a bit.
I have found one position that offers some relief - standing at the window with arms braced on the edge supporting some of my weight; so I have watched a few sun rises recently.

..... like Fynnie finally gaining some weight.
Due to various health issues Fynn has become quite skinny over the last months although he always ate enough. He lost more than 4 lbs and was finally down to 7 lbs a few weeks ago. At the moment he receives cortisone because the vet thinks that an IBD causes the weight loss. The cortisone seems to allow him to gain some weight again, about 0.25 lbs so far, and I hope that the progress continues. In this photo he poses next to a can of his special low-allergenic cat food. He eats the contents of the complete can in a single day, which is a lot for a cat of his size. Cleo eats about 50% less and is round as a medicine ball, life is unfair.
Sorry for my absence and for not commenting. I have a tenosynovitis at the moment, quite painful and I can hardly type. As typing is essential for my work I have to do it anyway with the help of painkillers and ice packs. Not a brilliant strategy, I know, but I have deadlines which I have to observe, no matter what. I have decided to abandon or drastically reduce my Flickr activities for a while in order not to make things even worse. I just post Fynn's photo to let you know that we are (more or less) okay. Sorry if I will only comment on a few of your photos, it's really difficult right now.
The rickshaw driver has a headache
Madurai (India) - This rickshaw driver whose services I used is not in good shape. He has a headache. I gave him some painkillers that I always have in my pocket, in case my neck would remember me. It happened to me several times to play the "French doctors" in India. Mainly for migraines.
Given the effectiveness of the drug (made in India for a large French laboratory), I made new friends. For the rickshaw driver in the photo, I didn't see him again, but I'm sure those headaches quickly disappeared... for a few hours. It should be noted that in India, medicines are very expensive and many people cannot even afford aspirin. The health record of the population is deplorable.
