ODC-Easy/Difficult

Calligraphy is something I used to enjoy doing. I practiced for a very long time and managed to get pretty good at it. I haven't done it in many years so now it's more difficult. More practice is what I need.

Several new patterns presented themselves on this little practice page. I'll be sharing the step-outs for those patterns on my blog later this week. ;)

Sandhurst/Bendigo.Bendigo is figuratively and literally the city built on gold. Beneath the city is a maze of tunnels and shafts from one of the world’s richest gold finds. Bendigo meant gold. Thirty seven separate quartz reefs lie beneath the city and gold was found in all of them. After the first alluvial gold was found in late 1851 diggers flocked to the goldfields. The wives of two workers on the 200,000 acre Ravenswood sheep run are credited with finding the first alluvial gold on the sheep station but many others have also claimed this distinction. Within weeks there were signs of this gold rush becoming another California type gold rush with hopeful diggers arriving from China, Italy, Germany, parts of the British Empire and the other colonies. The Victorian gold rushes transformed all of the Australian colonies. By mid 1852 there were 20,000 people on the Bendigo gold fields and this later swelled to 40,000 people in the Bendigo region. This figures included around 5,000 to 8,000 Chinese diggers and gold camp followers and businessmen. The names of some of the mines were taken from the gullies and regions of Bendigo and they are now suburbs of Bendigo - Kangaroo Flat, Eaglehawk, Golden Square, Long Gully, California Gully, Ironbark, etc. Gold mining might have begun on Bendigo Creek where the Gold Commissioners, police and courts set up but, mining soon spread through the entire Bendigo district. Camp Hill overlooking Bendigo Creek and Rosalind Park became the government centre from where police control was exercised. The old Bendigo Gaol (1859) is still up on the hill there next to the Camp Hill state school (1877). The government Survey Office was also built here in 1858 at the top of View Street on Camp Hill and the Police Barracks were constructed at the bottom of the hill in 1859.

Bendigo was the world’s richest and biggest gold field until the discovery of the Kalgoorlie goldfields in Western Australian in the early 1890s. It was the largest and most successful goldfield in eastern Australia. Between 1851 and 1954 when the Central Deborah Gold Mine closed in Bendigo some 700,000 kilograms of gold was extracted from the Bendigo region. The value of its gold in current terms would be about $30 billion. The goldfield covered an area roughly 30 kilometres long and 12 kilometres wide. There were thousands of diggers who sought alluvial gold- and found it- in the 1850s before they were replaced by small and large companies who sank deep shafts and dug tunnels to extract the gold from the quartz reefs in the 1860s and later. There were more than 5,000 registered gold mines in Bendigo. This led to Bendigo having its own Stock Exchange so that gold shares could be sold to investors in London and around the world through the marvel of the telegraph. Bendigo had one of the few regional stock exchanges in Australia until it closed in 2012. At least 140 mine shafts were sunk in Bendigo and some of them reached depths of 1,000 metres or more! Some of the poppet heads for these shafts still remain in Bendigo. One of the last mines to be formed was the Central Deborah Mining Company in 1939 and it was the last to operate. It only closed in 1954. Some of the most famous and successful of the Bendigo mining companies were: Shamrock, New Chum Hill, Lansell’s 222, Victoria Hill, etc. Since the closure of the Central Deborah Mine in 1954 new mining techniques have been used in the 1980s and 1990s to try and extract yet more gold from the old mine shafts and workings. Clearly all the heritage and history of Bendigo is clearly rooted in its gold mining past. Probably no other Town Hall in Australia has 22 carat gold leaf embellishments across the ceiling. The original Town Hall was a simple two storey structure designed by the Town Clerk in 1859. A structure more befitting a wealthy gold mining city was later required and local architect William Vahland was commissioned to transform the Town Hall into a grand structure which he did. His new Town Hall was built between 1878 and 1886 with ornate plaster mouldings on both the interior and exterior and although Vahland’s plan included a clock tower the clock was never installed.

The town of Bendigo did not exist in formal terms until 1890 when a local committee was given the task of trying to decide who actually found the first gold and to decide upon a name for the city. Although the government town was known as Sandhurst, locally the town was always referred to as Bendigo. The committee asked local ratepayers who decided upon Bendigo for the city name in 1891 but they never decided unequivocally who found the first gold. But they did acknowledged that the claim of Mrs Margaret Kennedy of the Ravenswood Run was probably the best claim. The origins for Bendigo City go back to 1853 when land was surveyed and the city plan drawn up. Pall Mall near Bendigo Creek became the centre for commercial activity and it remains the main thoroughfare. Bendigo became a municipality in 1863 and its prosperity ushered in a period of grand building which continued into the 1870s and 1880s. The arrival of the railway from Melbourne in 1862 aided the town greatly in terms of industry and communications. By the early 1860s Bendigo had a flourishing industry base with flour mills, woollen mills, tanneries, quarries, foundries, a eucalyptus oil distillery and food production. The surrounding eucalyptus woodland was also felled and timber-cutting and saw milling was another important industry for the town. Mines need timber.

Many of the architectural gems of early Bendigo were created from the architectural studio of William Charles (Carl Wilhelm) Vahland and his associates. Vahland was born in Hanover Germany in 1828. In 1849 he entered the most prestigious building school in Germany to learn the art of architecture. His theory and practical studies began at 6 am and finished at 9:30 pm except for the earlier finish at 7 pm on Saturdays. He studied architecture there for three years and learnt in great depth about Greek classical styles of architecture. His interests in this area influenced his architecture for the rest of his life. In 1852 after completing his studies he practised architect in Bremen and Hamburg before he sailed for the Victorian goldfields in 1854. He travelled immediately to Bendigo but had little success on the goldfields. By 1855 he was employed as a carpenter before he became a naturalised British subject in 1857 which was also the year in which he established his own carpentry workshop making puddling cradles for miners. He ran his workshop and later architectural practice with his business partner Robert Getzschmann, with whom he worked until Getzschmann's death in 1875. Within a year or so of 1857 they were both working as architects but Vahland was also a founding member of the Bendigo Building Society which later became the Bendigo Bank. He was a Justice of the Peace and was active in local affairs. He married an English woman in 1859 and built his own residence in Barkley Terrace. Vahland went on to become the preeminent architect of Bendigo. He designed around 80 public structures for the city including a number of its best known buildings. He is known to have designed around 200 public and commercial buildings in the goldfields area of Central Victoria. He probably also designed dozens of large and small residences that have not been ascribed to his studio. He worked for over 50 years creating much of the visual landscape of the city. He died in 1915 after World War One broke out when sadly a few members of his beloved Masonic Lodge (he had been a member since 1857 and had been the Grand Master) tried to have him expelled because of his German background!

Some of the notable Bendigo buildings designed by William Vahland are: the Alexandria Fountain in Pall Mall 1881; the City Family Hotel 1872; the Commercial Bank of Australia 1875; the original Post Office 1870; the Bendigo Art Gallery 1873 which was originally the Masonic Hall and Temple; the original Art Gallery 1867; the Temperance Hall 1860; the Sandhurst Club Building 1893; St Kilian’s Catholic Church 1888; St Paul’s Anglican Rectory 1885; All Saints Catholic Cathedral 1869; the Wesleyan Methodist church additions 1877; the Congregational Church 1890; the Lutheran Church 1857; the Convent of Mercy 1865; the Goldfields Hospital 1858, 1864 and 1866; the Bendigo Benevolent Asylum 1862, 1864 and 1872 etc. In addition to these significant structures in central Bendigo he designed churches and other public buildings in Eaglehawk, Long Gully, Ironbark, California Gully, Kangaroo Flat etc.

I had to break my snow series and regroup. I have been spending a lot of time on another project but had to sideline everything for a Trump break after his spectacular week in the lowlight. Wait, wait... don't tell me! I KNEW Trump's mouth would get him into big trouble as he galloped his mouth into the sunset! Could it be! Didn't even need bait. Don't you dare pactice catch and release when you could up your family's DHA fish oil fat content, big time on one swelled dope. Watch all your fingers when this one is eating.

I thought we just got rid of one orange man; one down, one to go! I remember him yelping about Rubio being an anchor baby. Fair enough. If Rubio is just that, The Donald is certainly the premier US anchor husband. Imported wives, imported dirt cheap undocumented labor. Just look at this scowling, hateful mug! The man is always pandering to the back country xenophobes drumming up the hate vote.

I scanned Trump pix and could not let this big .JPG lie. Boy can ever contort himself into being even uglier without saying any thing. I wonder where the transplant surgeons ever found the bad orange hair plugs. No wonder the folks in his mom's UK home town apologized for that export!

Mary Jane has been cutting portrait stencils lately and she gave a link to directions for cutting your own self-portrait stencil. I had to give it a try and today was the day. Unfortunately the stencil slipped here in my joural. The pactice one turned out better. To make the stencil you use Photoshop on a self-portrait photo. I included those here too along with a Modglianized view of the same photo. This was done online somewhere. The shadow and foot photo were taken at the creek today. I wound up taking 148 photos trying to get seven to post to the 07_07_07 group.

When this event took place at Golgatha (Calvary), many people were present. It was not just a cruxifiction, but an event that brought even the religious leaders there to watch. Women, men and children all gathered to view the man whom was called "King of the Jews". The man whom gained respect and honor, apart from the vanity of Roman rule, was finally on the cross.

In this work I have women from every walk of life, present. Afterall, it was women whom truly followed Him and was healed of their infirmities -without deceit. Jesus condemned the Pharissees and Sadducees for their adulterous pactices. Very much like politicians and church leaders 'today' -using their authority to seduce.

Here, I've carved the figurine of the Centurion's woman who seem rather complacent at the event.

But Jesus, viewing them all from the cross, seeing a dying world said to His Father: "Forgive them for they know not what they do."

This shows 2 pointing blood vessels on the left side pointing to about 8:55 which is the right breast. This person has pain and lumps in the right breast. This may be cancer or precancerous or just toxic lumps with pain.

The outer edge around the eye is the skin layer and is dark blue meaning it has toxin in that needs to sweated it out.

Also the next layer in from the edge is the lymph nodes. the left side of this eye show many lymph nodes very dark blue meaning they have many toxins in them (long term toxin in Lymph can be precancerous) and needs to be cleaned out. These toxin lymph node could be cancer or precancerous, they need to be cleaned up.

The white inside is from being over acidic. To reverse this the person needs to eat more non-acidic foods and take more calcium.

There is a lot more in this eye but you don’t have to know everything about iridology to make it very useful.

Do a web search to find iridology charts and a good book to understand this is Jensen’s first book, The Pactice and Science of Iridology.

I would encourage the person to research Dr. Lora Day and her cancer cure as well as Dr. Robert Beck aids and cancer cure. Also to research Lymph nodes cancer cures and to clean up toxin from the shin and Lymph system. Also do a colon detox.

DR. GEORGE BROWN DEAD

______

HIS FINAL ILLNESS LASTED BUT TWELVE HOURS.

______

THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS

A PHYSICIAN HERE

______

STATE MEDICAL EXAMINER FOR THE UNITED WORKMEN.

______

He Also Served Three Terms as Mayor

of his City and Was the First

Clerk of Colfax Township in

Wilson County--Funeral

to be Held Sunday.

______

Dr. George H. Brown, a practicing physician here for thirty-eight years, died this morning at 3:15 o'clock at his home, 14 North Grant avenue. He was feeling in his usual health yesterday morning and made his regular calls. About 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon he was taken with acute neuralgia, which gradually grew worse to the time of his death.

Dr. Brown was born in Ontario county, New York, May 21, 1845. His father came to Kansas and settled in Wilson county in 1868. Mr. Brown had received his primary education in the public schools of New York. He was a student in the Geneva schools and in Eastman's business college, where he graduated in 1863.

Following his graduation he went to Charlton, Ia., and for three years was employed by an uncle in the manufacture of farm implements. Having a desire to be near his father's in 1870, in Colfax township, Wilson county.

He remained there for about three years but in the spring of 1874 took up his residence in the new town of Chanute, where he had lived almost all of the time since.

In 1861 Dr. Brown lost a limb, and by this accident had his attention forcibly called to the need of selecting a calling in which this misfortune would be of best hindrance. He selected medicine, for which he had a natural inclination, and began his reading under Dr. Potter of Geneva, N. Y.

In that time it was the custom for a medical student to pactice as he studied and thus it was not until 1886 that he graduated from the medical department of the University of Kansas.

The same year he was appointed as surgeon for the Missouri, Kansas & Texas railroad at this point. He had been associated with the International Railway Surgeons Association for a number of years.

He had served both the city of Chanute and Neosho county as health officer, and was a member of the board of pension examiners under the administrations of Cleveland and McKinley.

He had also been favored with a number of elective offices. He was the first clerk of Colfax township when a farmer in Wilson county, and was twice elected trustee. He was mayor of Chanute for three terms and his administrations were characterized by practical, common-sense, business methods.

He had taken a prominent part in the life of several fraternities. He was one of the oldest members of the United Workmen, for which he was state medical examiner for a number of years. He was also an Odd Fellow and a member of the Sons and Daughters of Justice and the Knights and Ladies of Security.

Besides his widow he leaves two brothers and three sons. The brothers are Moses Brown of 705 West Main street and Charles Brown of Kansas City. The sons are Albert P. Brown, local agent for the American Express Company. William Brown of Independence, Kas., and Ralph Brown of Stillwell, Tex.

Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed today. The present plans are to hod the services Sunday afternoon in the Methodist church, but no other details have been decided upon.

Iridology Right eye

Today I took my Ap world history exam. It was… strangly good. I feel really confident. Expecially on the DBQ because I kicked butt. I can’t wait to get in my scores. I have to wait until the third week of july.

It was so Anit-climatic (thats not what she said). I’m finally free, but idk… It doesn’t feel as good as I imagined.

I skipped Track Pactice because I didn’t feel like going, so we showed up to the last 30 mins and we snuck away after 20. Haha.

I bought the cutest black skirt at Annie Sez. I look banging.

So After we went to celebrate at a Greek resturant called ANDRO’S in town. Yay for gyros! Then we had Rita’s italian ices. My friend was dressed up as a huge italian ice. It was hilarious.

And it was also my Nonna’s (grandma’s) birthday. We went to her house for cake and to sing. We also brought her two beautiful blouses. She will never see this, but Happy Birthday!

Sorry if I write so much. It’s more for me than anyone else.

Professional Practices with Tom Becher, Design Futures with Clément Vincent and Core Studio (which I guess is where we do our grad project) tagged-teamed by Becher and Jim Budd. I may also add a couple missing classes I need, such as Ergo II and that Solidworks one, but maybe get a PLA for the Pro. Pactices.
