Fardoulis Chocolates - Chocolate Plato

A luxurious gift made with couverture chocolate.

Inspired by the story of Moby Dick I designed this custom bottle and matching label for the fictitious brand “Whalers” rum. The shape of the bottle was inspired by the curved head of a sperm whale as used in the original illustrations in the book from 1851 by Herman Melville. For the label I decided to stay close to the nautical theme but deliberately steered clear of traditional techniques such as engraving or etching. Using a a modern minimalist approach to the illustration combined with high end finishes such as embossing and gold foil give the final product a contemporary and luxurious feel. Especially when the bottle is presented in it’s custom linen covered gift box.

The classic Victorian cookery guide 'Mrs Beeton's Book Of Household Management' provided the inspiration for our design of Tesco's range of baking nuts. The colour and typographic references also borrow from the Robert Opie collection of early British packaging.

An iconic lager such as Jupiler would be a dream client for any designer. So I started working on a redesign; as a personal project; for the can and bottle label together with a number of promotional items positioning it as a “limited edition” design. I’ve applied my personal style to the packaging and made sure to re-use the iconic elements like the bull and the well known color pallet.
