The European Renaissance featured artwork that was upbeat and ebullient. Here, Raphael (circa 1512) depicts a previously portrayed as dour Madonna di San Sisto in a surprisingly giddy state, having just been equipped with buck teeth pacifier and baby formula. Everyone is happy. As life should be.
