A 1st year Juvenile Pacific Gull standing on the end of a Drain Pipe that empties into the water separating Phillip Island from the mainland.
The Pacific gull is a very large gull, native to the coasts of Australia.
Juveniles are mottled dark brown and have a glossy black bill.
Immatures in first-year plumage are still very dark but have a pale face and the base of the bill is pinkish.
Second-year immatures have dark brown wings, a paler rump, and a yellow bill with a black tip.
They’ll grow into a very large gull with a black back, white head, neck and underbody and a huge yellow bill, which has a red tip on both the upper and lower mandible.
Taken in the morning on our Phillip Island day trip.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves...it is always appreciated.

Sailing at twilight out of San Francisco Bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge, then through the Golden Gate and into the Pacific.

Seashore in the Taitung County, Taiwan.
I visited around the whole island during my Lunar New Year vacation. I hope to bring you some of my experiences different from my Magic Forest Series though. :-)
From Pacific Grove California, we hope everyone has a fantastic New Year filled with Joy and prosperity

Three-image panoramic stitch, each image is a blend of two exposures (1/3 sec and 1/10 sec).

With rain clouds hovering and rains in the far background, it was just a question of time when the Rainbow and the train would pop up around the same time.
Here, a South bound UP Stack train is headed towards San Antonio on Austin Sub, track 1 at New Braunfels, TX.
The Pacific Brown Pelican differs a bit in color from the mature brown pelicans on the Atlantic coast. The PBP's pouch is multi-colored--green with red instead of a singular brown. The eye of the PBP is a pale blue vs. brown. The PBP's silvery streaking on the feathering is also visible on this bird.
Photographed on rock island near La Paz.
From evidence on his beak and red eyes, he had obviously been hitting the grass pretty hard, but as long as he's not doing quack
Looking south towards Seal Point at the end of the Kaikoura peninsula. The walk along the cliffs gave some fabulous views to the intriguing beach scape below.
One of the better power combinations that I have shot was this Eastbound Southern Pacific train, seen heading up Beaumont Pass in December of 1986.
The lead engine was fresh looking SP GP35E #6330 followed by Chessie/B&O GP40-2 #4226, Missouri-Kansas-Texas SD40-2 #606 and Southern Pacific B30-7 #7846.
It seemed that every train back then that had a nice consist was either running with the wrong Sun angle or got helpers on the point, so we considered ourselves very lucky with this guy:}
Larus pacificus
Photographed at Cape Woolamai while lying down on the beautiful soft sandy surf beach. It is so much more easier than lying on gravel or sticks, as is commonly the case when photographing woodlands birds.
This juvenile bird seemed rather enamoured by the seaweed pile, which also created composition to an otherwise dull 'bird on the sand' shot.
