Many athletes notice that after periods of intensive training they experience a phase of over-training (oxidative stress) and become prone to illness. The immune system is affected and weakened by the higher oxygen intake. The psychological stress that athletes are subjected to, for example, before a competition, additionally affects the immune system.

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways, which can make it difficult to breathe. While there is no cure for asthma, there are many things you can do to prevent asthma attacks and manage symptoms. In this blog post, we will explore how to prevent asthma and the best treatments for asthma.
Preventing Asthma
Preventing asthma attacks involves identifying triggers and taking steps to avoid them. Common asthma triggers include:
Allergens - such as dust mites, pollen, and pet dander
Irritants - such as tobacco smoke, air pollution, and strong odors
Exercise - intense physical activity can trigger asthma symptoms
Infections - such as colds, flu, and sinus infections
To prevent asthma attacks, it is important to:
Avoid triggers - by minimizing exposure to allergens and irritants, and avoiding intense exercise in cold, dry air
Take medication - as prescribed by your healthcare provider to help control symptoms and prevent attacks
Monitor symptoms - and use a peak flow meter or spirometer to measure lung function
Develop an asthma action plan - with your healthcare provider to help manage symptoms and respond to asthma attacks
Treating Asthma
The best treatment for asthma depends on the severity of the condition and individual needs. There are two main types of asthma medications:
Quick-relief medications - such as short-acting beta-agonists, which are used during an asthma attack to quickly open the airways and relieve symptoms.
Long-term control medications - such as inhaled corticosteroids, which are used daily to reduce inflammation in the airways and prevent asthma attacks.
In addition to medication, other treatments for asthma may include:
Allergy shots - if allergens are a trigger for asthma, allergy shots may help reduce symptoms.
Bronchial thermoplasty - a procedure in which the airway muscles are heated to reduce their ability to narrow the airways.
Lung therapies - such as oxygen therapy, breathing exercises, and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Abstract
Anoxic brain injury resulting from cardiac arrest is responsible for approximately two-thirds of deaths. Recent evidence suggests that increasedoxygen delivered to the brain after cardiac arrest may be an important factor in preventing neuronal damage, resulting in an interest in hyperbaricoxygen (HBO) therapy. Interestingly, increased oxygen supply may be also reached by application of normobaric oxygen (NBO) or hyperbaric air (HBA). However, previous research also showed that the beneficial effect of hyperbaric treatment may not directly result from increased oxygensupply, leading to the conclusion that the mechanism of hyperbaric prevention of brain damage is not well understood. The aim of our study was to compare the effects of HBO, HBA and NBO treatment on gerbil brain condition after transient forebrain ischemia, serving as a model of cardiac arrest. Thereby, we investigated the effects of repetitive HBO, HBA and NBO treatment on hippocampal CA1 neuronal survival, brain temperature and gerbils behavior (the nest building), depending on the time of initiation of the therapy (1, 3 and 6 h after ischemia). HBO and HBA applied 1, 3 and 6 h after ischemia significantly increased neuronal survival and behavioral performance and abolished the ischemia-evoked brain temperature increase. NBO treatment was most effective when applied 1 h after ischemia; later application had a weak or no protective effect. The results show that HBO and HBA applied between 1 and 6 h after ischemia prevent ischemia-evoked neuronal damage, which may be due to the inhibition of brain temperature increase, as a result of the applied rise in ambient pressure, and just not due to the oxygen per se. This perspective is supported by the finding that NBO treatment was less effective than HBO or HBA therapy. The results presented in this paper may pave the way for future experimental studies dealing with pressure and temperature regulation.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has gained immense popularity in the past few decades in treating several health ailments and medical conditions.
HBOT involves breathing 100% oxygen in a specially-made Hyperbaric Chamber. The air pressure inside the chamber is increased to 1.5 to 3 times than average to help the lungs collect more oxygen.
What happens when you breathe in more oxygen?
Our body tissue requires oxygen to function properly. HBOT fills the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues and restore normal body function.
Earlier, this therapy was used by Scuba Divers to treat decompression sickness. However, over the years, HBOT has shown numerous benefits in treating various medical conditions and diseases.
FDA has approved the use of HBOT for the following diseases
●Severe Anemia
●Severe Burns
●Carbon monoxide poisoning
●Crush injury or Accident injury
●Decompression sickness
●Air or gas embolism
●Hearing loss
●Severe Skin and bone infection
●Radiation injury
●Skin graft flap at risk of tissue death
●Vision loss
●Diabetic Wounds
●Ulcers
Apart from these, HBOT has also shown effectiveness in treating various medical conditions and health ailments, and has been used as an alternative treatment. A few of them are listed below.
●Autism
●COVID-19
●Stroke recovery
●Immune deficiency
●Fibromyalgia
Due to these reasons, HBOT has become incredibly popular in the health and medical industry.
Celebrities and athletes are buying hyperbaric chambers to enhance their performance, recover from injury, improve sleep patterns, etc.
Here is an infographic to give you a better understanding of the benefits of the hyperbaric chamber.
