This is the Eastern Screech Owl and his name is Rufous. He looks a little rough around the edges here as he was molting during this photo shoot.

I got some great shots of a couple of Owlets and an adult Barred Owl in Central Saanich yesterday.

Young birds rapidly increase their weight from 35 grams at birth (0.77 lbs.) to 1000 grams (2.2 lbs.) for females and 800 grams (1.76 lbs.) for males in less than a month (25 days). They leave the nest in about 40 days, ready to take on the world.

Majestät der Lüfte – der Wüstenbussard ️

Dieser beeindruckende Greifvogel auf meinem Foto ist ein Wüstenbussard (Parabuteo unicinctus) – bekannt für seine Intelligenz, elegante Flugweise und das außergewöhnliche Sozialverhalten. 💨

🌍 Verbreitung

Der Wüstenbussard ist in den südwestlichen USA, Mittelamerika sowie weiten Teilen von Südamerika beheimatet. Man trifft ihn besonders in Halbwüsten, offenen Wäldern und Savannen an.

🍗 Ernährung

Als geschickter Jäger ernährt er sich von kleinen Säugetieren 🐀, Vögeln 🐦, Reptilien und Insekten . Besonders faszinierend: Er jagt oft im Team – eine Seltenheit unter Greifvögeln!

Brutzeit & Nachwuchs

Die Brutzeit variiert je nach Region, liegt aber meist zwischen Frühjahr und Sommer. Das Weibchen legt 2–4 Eier und übernimmt mit dem Männchen die Brutpflege. Nach etwa 35 Tagen schlüpfen die Küken – flügge werden sie nach ca. 45 Tagen. 💛

Dieses Bild entstand während einer Flugschau in Wunsiedel im Greifvogelpark Katharinenberg – ein unglaublicher Moment, diesen majestätischen Vogel in voller Aktion festzuhalten! 🙌

The Eurasian eagle-owl is a species of eagle-owl that resides in much of Eurasia. It is also called the European eagle-owl and in Europe, it is occasionally abbreviated to just the eagle-owl.
