This is likely a redundant owlet moth (one I've already posted, but not identified). Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sept. 1.
It's tough growing up . . . learning to fly . . . hunt . . . find enough food to survive. It was much easier living in a nest and having nest service.

My daughter Tsufi and I found this massive GHO nest and thought there was only one owlet. I returned in later afternoons and discovered 3 were in there! There was a crazy wind storm and it was outrageous. The owlets didn’t seem to mind one bit.

A visit to Kevin Robsen's hide in Cambridgeshire (KHRImages) always brings rewards . This time 4 owlets had recently fledged. It was a shame I could not get all 4 in the same photo.

Great Horned Owls, the poofy baby variety. I put on all my rain gear and zipped my camera inside my jacket and walked around the refuge on Monday. Most of the time it rained steadily, but fortunately not right near the start of my walk, when I saw these guys. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.
It was a peaceful scene till suddenly the scream of a Red Tail broke the silence. As a Great Horned adult watched, the little owlet jerked upright with alarm to see a Red Tail perched in a pine closeby. The owlet flew to a nearby tree. It lifted its wings and puffed up as big as it could as if to intimidate the Red Tail with its bigness. Soon the mood was peaceful again.

This Great Horned Owlet stayed in this one spot for about an hour and a half and for much of the time was in the deeper shadows of the woods. But when the sun filtered through the gaps it provided a lovely spotlight on this young fledgling. Lincoln County, WI 7/11/2021

An owlet perching on a tamarind tree in Gujrat treated us with this view. It had had time keeping the eys wide open. It was falling asleep and open its eye suddenly.

The spotted owlet (Athene brama) is a small owl which breeds in tropical Asia from mainland India to Southeast Asia. A common resident of open habitats including farmland and human habitation, it has adapted to living in cities. They roost in small groups in the hollows of trees or in cavities in rocks or buildings. It nests in a hole in a tree or building, laying 3–5 eggs. They are often found near human habitation. The species shows great variation including clinal variation in size and forms a superspecies with the very similar little owl.
