Great Horned Owlet testing its wings

DJH06073-Edit

I've just had an amazing time watching a young Tawny Owl having its leg ring fitted. There were 2 Owlets in the nest last week but sadly one has not survived. Good Luck to this little one.

A female barn owlet , one of four that I was privelaged to watch for a couple of weeks

This Great Horned owlet is around six months old. It looks like an adult but still exhibits some juvenile behaviors such as a squawk instead of a hoot and some flightiness around people. Seen in north Walnut Creek, California.

Great Horned Owlet, this photo is a pretty large crop.

This little owlet is becoming a mighty fine owl.

Small owl, big eyes — and Spotted Owlet has a vast distribution, extending from the Indian subcontinent to Southeast Asia. We saw this bird at a temple in Phetchaburi province, Thailand.

I had introduced Anna and Alex individually, now it is the turn for Christine. Christine was the girl that spent a lot of time in the "gang of three" with Charles and Alex. Like most of the child in the middle, she did not take a lot of responsibility, like Anna looking after Sunny, in this family. The following picture was the portrait from her.

Great views of the owlets recently - all three are doing well, here are two of them perched together last night

I think this is an Intermediate Hooded Owlet, Cucullia intermedia. These are common, although not always easy to see. I love the coiffure. This is a 5-image handheld photo stack.

Thank you for viewing

We were fortunate to have found a Great Horned Owl family at the campground we were at last weekend!!

Great Horned Owlet

The second Barred Owlet had left the confines of the nest cavity only to fall to the forest floor a few minutes later. It looked very dejected after heavy rain the night before.

The Pearl-Spotted Owlet (Glaucidium Perlatum) is one of the most common owls in the savanna woodland area of southern Africa. It is crepuscular, often active in the early morning and late afternoon to avoid competing with other species. This owlet has "mock-eyes" at the back of it's head, which confuses the predator as to which way the owl is facing. Photo captured by my husband, Richard Strahl, in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, Botswana, last year - with my post-processing.

Caught a bit later in the season this great grey owlet still has a lot of its down and juvi feathers but is fully fledged and quite capable of flight.

jungle owlet or barred jungle owlet is native to the Indian Subcontinent. The species is often found singly, in pairs or small groups, and they are usually detected by their calls at dawn and dusk.

Have been absent from Flickr for almost a year due to varies of reasons...

Anyway I thought i would come back with some of the images I took recently during an incredible session with a family of Great Gray Owls.

I was a little late in regards to the babies since they have already fledged but were still hanging around nearby waiting to be fed by the parents.

You will notice most of the images I will post including this one have burnt trees and branches in them. That tells how serious the wildfire situations have been in Canada for the last recent years.

Amazingly these areas still provide abandoned food source - mainly voles for the parents to hunt...even myself was almost tripped by a few of the voles, lol.
