I know I said that the last wet picture would be the last this year. But the weather turned really warm this weekend. So I decided to give it one last shot. The water was *fresh* - a little chilly, but good if you didn't stay in too long. I went in 4 times :-)

No one would blame you for thinking that this Mourning Warbler (Geothlypis philadelphia) was attempting to hitchhike, with all the leg that it's showing. But it's really just doing what it does best, clinging to underbrush. Mournings are, after all, major skulkers, foraging at the lowest levels of shrubby forest lands, hopping along the ground and twigs to scare up insectile delights. This handsome bird is named for his black bib, which is reminiscent of the black bib worn by American pioneers during periods of mourning.
This spring was particularly good for morning warblers. And this fellow was one of three calling within a 100-foot radius of rolling thicket.
