Foxton :

Tourism is a major part of the District and Foxton's economy. Foxton is the home of NZ's horse-drawn tram plus a sound and movie museum; flax stripper museum; dutch windmill and more

Foxton is a thriving township with local and national branded businesses.. Surrounded to the North, East and South by agricultural and pastoral farming, Foxton also supports a number of commercial and service industries and an all-weather racecourse. The main shopping area, and attractions, are situated one block from SH1 adjacent to the Manawatu River Loop on the northern bank of the Manawatu River.

Ancient ovens. At the entrance of a small cave, perched on a giant rock. If you do not know how it is there, you can not find it. We discovered it many years ago after an random climb..

Named after its first postmaster, John S. Cochran, the small mining camp also served as a stop on the Santa Fe, Prescott and Phoenix Railway. The post office was established on January 3, 1905, and was discontinued on January 15, 1915. At its peak, the town was home to approximately one hundred residents, and housed a general store and a boardinghouse, among other establishments.[1]

Apart from a few building foundations in the town center, and the train tracks that still run by the edge of the now-abandoned town site, Cochran's last and most notable remains are a set of five largely intact beehive coke ovens across the Gila River at Butte, Arizona.

The ovens were used in the early 1900s to make coke, a clean-burning fuel used in blast furnaces to produce iron ore. Coke was made by baking a mixture of different kinds of coal at high temperature without contact with air.

A year and six trips finally made it and it was well worth it! Very scenic 4 whlr trip and very ruff to :) I used my trusty Canon 7d on this trip. There was too much dust, too many rocks and just didn't want to take a chance on ruining my 1D on this trip so the pictures aren't quite as good as they might have been.

Colour re-edit of a shot from November 2019. Wrapped up snug in foil sounds like a good idea right now. Enjoy!

I had a concept that I couldn't make work, I need a hairdresser, makeup artist and wardrobe. I told my husband about a few ideas I had but I needed a wide angle lens and he surprised me with an early anniversary present, a fisheye lens. Get ready for me to experiment with all of the fun distortion. Not quite what I wanted but it's a fun start.

Probably just me but the rock in the foreground kind of looks like an oven glove.

Photographed during the warbler migration in Lois Hole Prov. pk. AB.

Seen at Gladstone Pottery Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. This museum is really worth a visit as it's a fascinating place with good pottery demonstrations and great industrial revolution architecture. Here's a link with more information:- www.stokemuseums.org.uk/gpm/ This was a difficult photo to balance due to the bright blue sky/clouds and the dark brick bottle ovens/buildings.

Thanks so much for the visit!

A wood-fired pizza oven typically reaches temperatures between 400C and 485C to cook a pizza in about 60 to 90 seconds. The high heat is necessary to cook the crust from the bottom up and the toppings from the top down, creating a crispy yet chewy base and perfectly charred toppings.
