Same flower as yesterday's post, but the flower is in a different setting.

Sometimes one has to get creative and think outside the box. I cut this flower from one of our planters, leaving a 10-inch stem on it. Then I weaved the stem through several leaves of our Japanese Maple tree.

It nestled nicely against the dark red leaves and I clicked my shutter, resulting in this low-key but colorful image.

Enjoy!

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! xo❤️

Several years ago, on a dreary day of dull, dull light, I tried to salvage an outing on the drive home. Cows were beside the road and on the road. On impulse, I hand held my camera with a wide angle lens and slow shutter while driving slowly, just holding the camera at arm's length through the open window and shooting bursts. Most shots, predictably, were throwaways. But I like this one.

Black Angus is the preferred breed here among ranchers, and most are all black, but a small percentage of them have white markings, which made this shot viable. I have all the conventional images of cows that I'll ever need, so why not try something different?

Tomorrow: one more cow shot. Also different.

The title is based on all the silly click bait titles you see on the interwebs. So, yeah, this is actually the Grumpy family portrait that was recently done here in Quispamsis. Papa Grady, momma Greta, daughter, Gracie, and son, Grant. Grant, the one looking off camera, of course. He's such a little rascal. Always cutting up.

I choose that road~ I must pay the price ;-))

A place by the River Wharfe

Each day my concerns grow as to how things are framed and presented - be it within a social, political, personal or universal context.

What I mean to say is, that with the advent of digital instant technology, each time we record and view the reality around us - it has an immediate effect on our views and understanding of that which is captured - unlike previous forms of recordings and communications, which had time lags, to allow for refection and integration.

This is not necessarily a good or bad thing, just something which seems to have inherent within it implications - we perhaps have not yet come to fully understand.

How does one move outside the boxed effects of TV, computers, paintings, photographs... in not only relationship to their physical reality - its flat 2D x 3D illusion - but also how it frames our psychological, emotional and spiritual worldviews.

In this series, I began to take seemingly random shots of the pavement while walking. Within this supposed randomness, I began to notice that a story – an event - had taken place referenced by the imprints and articles left behind. More importantly, the story was still in progress. It was due to this that it got me thinking about this boxing in effect – of how we tend to frame and manipulate things to fit within our own personal worldview.

Of course, it could be argued that I also framed these shots – and that would be true. However, it is somehow in how these elements – within the frame - dictate the context – the idea - of the image that go beyond its obvious content, which began to fascinate me.

... outside the Box set

I watched a television documentary recently that was dealing with Meta-physics and the nature of conscious. (Well it was A LOT more in-depth than that), but it went into the history and highlighted how fluid our knowledge in this area is, by documenting the key paradigm shifts. This program was challenging in many ways, (as it was way over my head and some of the in-depth mathematical equations didn’t interest me) but what did, was the way that our knowledge of we think is “real” is totally and utterly not what it seems.

The thing that totally amazed me, was the way that our known laws of physics seem to change the smaller you went. It was as though the ever-decreeing circles distorted the ‘reality’ of the previous.

It kind of solidified my beliefs that what we think of as real and solid is in fact not the case. In fact it is probably more accurate to say that there is an infinite amount that we ‘do not know’. I see it rather logical to say we know such a small minuscule amount about ‘anything’, that its impossible to even perceives our lack of solid ground.

This statement leaves me with mixed feelings. massive insecurities (fear of the unknown) but wonderful optimism, (massive excitement at the mind blowing possibilities) a paradox. It’s almost true to say that everything your imagination can perceive is in fact possible. WOW just imagine that for a second……parallel universes (were mentioned), sprits, aliens, (I know I'm sounding weird and a tad science fiction, but all possible in an infinite world).

I seem to remember the presenter saying that they only knew that quarks existed because of what they ‘couldn’t’ see. He said that the very act of looking for them, (and my spine is tingling at the thought) changed the very physical reality. WOW…. Now I'm probably not making much sense, and I'm struggling to remember precisely what he was saying, but my mind resonated at the unimaginable possibilities that what he was saying offers us.

I personally find this type of conversation vastly inspirational. a world without the confines of so-called laws of psychics, would be truly creative. No boxes to think outside, no rules! But how does it relate to this photograph?

Now it seems to me that when you look at a scene (especially a moment in time like this), that you aren’t really seeing what is there. yes it ‘looks’ like the place I took the image of, and for the purists amongst us, its not to dissimilar from documenting the colour, lighting conditions, sharpness blar de blarr de blarr. But the very act of capturing this image with a camera, that in a couple of years will be considered redundant, begs the question at the importance of those questions. (I have to get the dig in don’t i). It isn’t ‘real’, it isn’t even close to ‘real’, what the hell is real? Our own perception of reality is distorted by our unique experiences. We all see this differently because we do not only see it, we engage emotionally with it. We feel something which changes our perceptions of it.

So to sum this up before I ramble on too long, what does this mean to you? Is it a collection of pixels? A massive chain of zeros and ones, or is it a dull wet cold winters day? Maybe a beach on a parallel universe. May I leave you with a final thought. Imagine if every grain of sand on this beach was a sun and around each and every one there were 20 or so planets……are we alone?

I was shooting landscapes in the pre-dawn (and post-dawn) light; Lower Kananaskis Lake was mirror-smooth and a compelling subject. Moments before the sun began to lick those mountain peaks with gold, however, I turned my attention to some dense willow thickets nearby. They were exploding with seeds. The air was perfectly still and frost rimmed each leaf. I set the tripod up quickly and made a few shots before running down to the lake shore to catch the spreading light.

I hadn't planned this shot, and was half convinced that I might be wasting my time, but it has always been my belief that if an idea or an image comes unbidden, it may be worth pursuing. At the very least, it keeps my mind fluid and flexible. And occasionally what I find turns out better than what I was chasing.

Throughout history, no other flower has been mentioned more than the rose, and for good reasoning. The rose has been mentioned in music, mythological stories, as an icon in movies, transformed into perfumes, and been sought as the go-to flower of love. Roses grow wild from the mountains of Norway, to as far south as Mexico. Roses were in such high demand during the 17th century, that royalty considered roses or rose water as legal tender, and were often used as barter and for payments. Today, now raised agriculturally for profit, the rose is the most popular selling flower nationally, and possibly globally.

After I ended my short documentary series on the "Fire at Mangrove Pond", my friend and I headed off to our second location. My photography club had an invite and a challenge from one of our members to shoot within his backyard compound. Such a small space but rather rewarding. I was trying to do two thing at once: Shooting still abstracts and shooting video to practice my technique.

I love leaves...as you probably guessed. :D I enjoy their look, and their texture. I loved seeing this particular leaf around the backyard as well as making sure to run my hands on it. What kind of leaf do you think this is?

As the collective consciousness rises mankind will cast off the walls of the box and weight of the pyramidal construct of the last 6000 years and connect with the universal limitless knowledge. Lets make light work of it and step away as our ancestors did for millions of years

Glastonbury Tor sits on St Michaels Ley Line and every year on May the 8th the sun follows the ley's path which runs from the north sea to St Michael's Mount in Cornwall. This is Beltane half way between the Winter solstice and Spring Equinox. The sun rises at 60 degrees east of North and sets 240 degrees around at 60 degrees west of North . Had it shone at sunrise today at 5.32am it would have been seen through this doorway which is aligned with the Ley Line and Beltane sunrise. An eerie mist prevailed

Items will be available at the upcoming Rock Your Rack beginning October 1st.

Changing gears again, we're moving from rough to smooth. One of my favourite things about living in the tropics again is the abundance of palm trees. You can find them pretty much all over the island, ranging from the food producing coconut palm to the more decorative varieties. I saw these three unblemished leaves and knew I wanted to include them in my collection.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A place without being

a thought without thinking

creatively, two dimensions

suspended animation

possibly a perfect imitation

of what was then to see.

A frozen memory in synthetic colour

or black and white instead,

fantasy dreams in magazines

become imbedded inside my head.

Artistic views

surrealistic hues,

a photographer’s instinctive eye:

for he does as he pleases

up to that point he releases,

then develops a visual high.
