Hi Everybody,
As you see above is a collage of shots I took on Tuesday night from the rooftop of my house as some folks were celebrating the Islamic festival of “Eid al-Adh’haa”. The camera’s outofocus function is not working and with a broken tripod and with no shutter release cable I had no choice but to do it manually with the camera in my hands. You know it is not easy to shoot moving objects at night especially with the decisive moment for each colorful bang of the firecrackers being hard to predict. I didn’t want to waste time trying some techniques like sequential shooting or bracketing as I was already missing shots. In order to avoid blurry results I set the ISO to the highest level (to reduce the time gap the sensor needs to record one frame and the next) while leaning against a wall to reduce camera shake to minimum. Following the trail of each banger rocketing to the sky, it was a real fun to guess the exact moment as when the next “peaceful explosion” was to take place (in a matter of a second)…that was the job of the brain and it was nice to be able to capture some of the fireworks…I’m not saying that the above shots are very good for I know that they are weak and probably so weak compared to so many amazing fireworks captured by many professional photographers but I’m happy that my first attempt was not that bad…
What was lovelier yet was to hear the kids in my neighborhood happily shouting “Haayyyyyyyyy” after each colorful bang… I was moved by the fact that the simplest things in life could make them happy…how I wish I were a kid! What about you?
and if a double-decker bus crashes into us
to die by your side, is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten-ton truck kills the both of us,
to die by your side, well the pleasure, the privilege is mine

this is my first time ever participating in musically challenged. i love the bonus songs for this week, so we'll see if i can tackle the other one tomorrow.
i have to work tonight. the flavor of the day is java chip. i spent some of my afternoon outside reading everything is illuminated by jonathan safran foer and sipping on a caramel frappe from mcdonald's. seems like i'm a coffee addict today.
there's a storm brewing, both inside and out.
If I could stay at this beach everyday I would.
Imported sand, no salt water, just nice placid lake water.
And a ridiculously stunning view especially when the sun began to set.
Walking back to camp from a long day at Lake Welch Beach and I caught the sun chasing me through the trees and found this perfect spot where it was peeking out all across the field before me.

"Pain in the Glass"
Today's portrait is a self-portrait....of me. I recently viewed a portrait of someone in the rain.....bu realized it may take a while before it rains in Los Angeles again. I got tired of waiting outside, so I decided to shoot it indoors. I hung a piece of glass, sprayed it with a mixture of water and glycerin (it sticks better than water alone), and focused on the glass. Focusing on the glass was crucial....because I didn't want to see my mug. The result is a surprisingly creamy appearance to the skin, and I love the texture on the glass. I think the contrast in these textures is what almost makes this interesting. Just for a little separation, I snooted a speedlight and shot it against the canvas background. Thanks for dripping by!!
