The Acela, which travels at 150 mph (240 km/h) over 49.9 miles (80.3 km) in Connecticut and Rhode Island, is the fastest train in America. New Jersey rail is being upgraded to 160 mph by Acela. There is only one high-speed rail service in the US. When new trains are put into service, Acela trains' top speeds will be 165 mph (266 km/h) and 186 mph (299 km/h) in the coming years.

My newest test subject added to the layout. A 4 ft. long Covered Bridge. The same aluminum construction as with all my bridges only adding plastic woodgrain sheeting that's supposed to be UV resistant ... we'll see :-)

This is my favorite train, the LGB LCE. After years of running the rear unit ground down the axle gear. I flipped the axle over but it only lasted for a few extra weeks. I replaced the motor block with an Aristocraft Doodlebug motor block and now she's under full power again. I would just like a lot more speed. Please forgive the dirty track.

First day on the track for the Heavyweights. Still have 2 minor track issues to address to insure a complete lap. I had to make two coupler adapters to pull this off. The first is a "draw-Bar", two knuckle heads connected together for a longer reach from the locomotive since the coupler will not swing that far to make the turn in a couple spots. The second adapter is used where the Kadee body mount coupler meets the Aristocraft truck mounted coupler. The brand new USA Trains SD-70 MAC did not come with traction wheels but are offered as a parts option. I got them and installed them to help the engine on the grades. Much better performance! Thanks to members of Facebook G-Scale groups for the guidance.

Did You Know?
The Pioneer was the first railroad locomotive to run in Chicago, Illinois. It was manufactured in 1837 by Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Utica and Schenectady Railroad (U&S) in New York. Later, it was acquired by William B. Ogden for the Galena and Chicago Union Railroad (G&CU), the oldest antecedent of the Chicago and North Western Railway. On October 10, 1848, the Pioneer arrived in Chicago via a schooner and on October 25th of the same year, it led the first westbound train out of the city. The Pioneer has been conserved and is now exhibited at the Chicago History Museum.

The longest train I've ever run on the layout and the max I can run. 22 cars and 2 engines. The loop at the front of our home stops me from being able to add more cars. Thanks to the redesign and rebuild over the winter my car capabilities has gone from 14 max to 22 max.
