A few documentation shots of the multi oscillator, light reactive synths I've been building for various performances as part of Sanctuary 2015. They use the amazingly hardy perennial favourite IC, the 40106 CMSOS Schmitt trigger.
There are also a couple of not synths, but percussive instruments made from jars, piezo electric contact mics and m3 nuts and a silver dollar respectively,

Lots of things accomplished:
* Swapped out the 80 meter crystal for a 40 meter one (7.040MHz)
* Switched out the AC voltage divider capacitors for appropriate values (470pF in series with 2.2nF, for ~387pF)
* Fixed a minor circuit error with the buffer amplifier
* Added the output transformer
* Added two parallel 100 ohm resistors from the transformer to ground for testing

We're trying to reduce the system temperature of our heterodyne spectrometers by moving the diplexer's mirrors (changing the length of the local oscillator path to the mixers). Unfortunately, doing so can bring the mixer currents up to a level where the HEB mixers are underpumped and entering an instable mode from which it is difficult to recover. So, for each polarization (Horizontal and Vertical), we perform 2 scans, one decreasing the diplexer actuator current from a first guess, one increasing it from the same first guess. They are the branches of the quite-parabolic connected curves that you see. Then, I perform a parabolic fit to localize the best optima (circles) given the crappiness of the data (see noise, hysteresis, thermal instabilities maybe).
Yes, I made this cute plot (and hundreds of others) ! This one is at 1.7 THz, because HIFI (Herschel) can go that high. This is from our Thermal Balance Temperature Vacuum campaign. Herschel is in the Large Space Simulator at ESTEC, Noordwijk. This is basically our last chance to measure, tabulate and upload tuning parameters to HIFI before it takes off in April.

Habitat: è un ragno che si adatta bene ad una grande varietà di ambienti. L’unica necessità è la presenza di una zona più o meno ampia dove il ragno possa tessere. Personalmente ne ho rinvenuti molti nelle piccole fosse (avevano tessuto la tela da sponda a sponda) che delimitano aree sia incolte che coltivate e nelle zone di macchia mediterranea molto aride, in prossimità di litorali sabbiosi. In zone boscose, ho notato la sua presenza vicino a piante di Rubus fruticosus (rovo selvatico), sfruttate come supporto strutturale della ragnatela.
Aggressività: scarsa: se disturbato mette in atto una strategia difensiva molto particolare: rimanendo al centro della tela, le imprime un movimento oscillatorio molto rapido, per un tempo che può variare dai 15 ai 30 secondi. Se questa tattica di "dissuasione" non ha effetto sceglie la fuga pur rimanendo nei paraggi fino a minaccia cessata. In caso di eventuale morso, gli effetti del veleno sono blandi; si avverte il dolore causato dall’azione meccanica dei cheliceri e un'arrossamento della parte interessata. I sintomi scompaiono nell’arco di alcune ore.

This video installation draws upon the most significant television images of Richard Nixon’s presidency up to his resignation speech following the Watergate scandal in 1974. Paik began to use circular magnetic coils to subvert broadcast material in 1965. He often chose politicians as the subjects of his distortions, as a form of visual satire that worked on multiple levels: both against the figures of authority seen on the screen and against the manipulative nature of mass media images.

The visionary artist who embraced mass media and new technology
Nam June Paik’s experimental, innovative, yet playful work has had a profound influence on today’s art and culture. He pioneered the use of TV and video in art and coined the phrase ‘electronic superhighway’ to predict the future of communication in the internet age.
This major exhibition is a mesmerising riot of sights and sounds. It brings together over 200 works from throughout his five-decade career – from robots made from old TV screens, to his innovative video works and all-encompassing room-sized installations such as the dazzling Sistine Chapel 1993.
Born in South Korea in 1932, but living and working in Japan, Germany and the US, Paik developed a collaborative artistic practice that crossed borders and disciplines. The exhibition looks at his close collaboration with cellist Charlotte Moorman. It also highlights partnerships with other avant-garde artists, musicians, choreographers and poets, including John Cage, Merce Cunningham and Joseph Beuys.

Poponov, when revived some hours after his experiments, was never able to give a clear explanation as to exactly how he had achieved perpetual Motion. His amnesia was ascribed to EM waves or some adverse effect associated with the extraction of zero point energy.

This performer had some crazy synth/oscillator style, outside Flinders Street Station. Definitely the fanciest kit of any of the buskers we saw.

If you follow my musical listening habits, you can almost predict what I'm gonna draw next.
And yeah, I'm just pretending that whole thing where Interpol made him cut his hair and stop looking like a heavy metal boy NEVER HAPPENED.
Obviously this is a rough version, gonna clean it up and colour him in and make him properly psychedelic. After I finish some oscillator-based album art for a friend's band... maybe...
I have made a few changes to the board mostly around the the lower middle area. This should reduce EMI around the crystal oscillator of the ds1307 real time clock.
The 3rd LSW Blue Thunder. Aside form the standard mod's, this one has a mod (couple resistor changes and added diodes) which is known as the IR3109 Squelch mod. It tames the input to the oscillator causing the resonance to squelch more. The diodes help keep it under control. Gives it that nice classic Roland sound without the $50 chip inside.

The original 26MHz oscillator provided with the beagle board doesn't offer a low power suspend mode. The part has been replaced with one that does.
