The colonnade (modern building) is located on a hill 900 meters from the walls of the Lavra. From here one of the best panoramic views of the monastery of St. Sergius and the city opens up. A good place to take unforgettable souvenir photos.
Sergiev Posad is the only city in the Moscow region included in the "Golden Ring" of Russia. It is considered the spiritual capital of Orthodoxy, the heart of the city is the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

An unusual obelisk stands on the central square of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. It was established in 1792 by the famous scholar and church leader - Metropolitan Plato (Levshin). On each side of the obelisk is a medallion with a text explaining exactly what role Laurus played in a given era ...
Many people know the monastery of St. Sergius of Radonezh as the spiritual center of Russian Orthodoxy and a collection of remarkable architectural monuments. But not everyone knows how important he played in the sharp turns of Russian history. And it’s hard to say in which country and how we would live today, if not for this monastery.
St. Sergius taught people primarily love and forgiveness. He himself set an example of humility in the most difficult situations.
Thousands of pilgrims come to the Lavra daily. There are 11 temples in the monastery.
Trinity Church is not the largest in the architectural ensemble of the Lavra, but it is here that the majority of those who came to the monastery are in a hurry. The whole time the temple is open for people to visit, the flow of people going into it does not stop: pilgrims hurry to bow to the relics of the founder of the monastery, St. Sergius.

Most residents of Ukraine profess Orthodoxy and celebrate Christmas according to the Julian calendar, on January 7th. But the number of believers celebrating this day on December 25, like most Christians around the world, is growing.
“Someone will see today the first star in the sky over Bakhmut, Rubizhne, Kremennaya. Warsaw, Berlin, London, New York, Toronto and many other cities and countries... And someone will celebrate this Christmas in captivity, but let him remember that we will come for all our people, we will return freedom to all Ukrainians and Ukrainian women. We will be together today We will make a wish One for all And we will feel joy One for all And we will understand the truth One for all We will celebrate our holidays as usual We will smile and rejoice As usual There is only one difference: we will not wait for a miracle, because we create it ourselves."
Vladimir Zelensky, President of Ukraine.

According to some sources, the church in the Vorontsovo estate was built from a park pavilion in 1807. During the War of 1812, the estate was badly damaged. French troops burned down the main house, looted and desecrated the Trinity Church. But already in 1816 the church was restored, services resumed in it.
One in a series of "Straight" Pano-Sabotage images of a churchs form being powerfully altered by the medium. A metaphor, or a reflection of the need for a dramatic transformation of the process and content of belief ?
A church building, a sign in itself, is morphed or in the process of transformation into a newer manifestation, something unforeseen perhaps, unprecedented. That doesn't necessarily connote destruction or elimination. It can be seen as being either iconoclastic or a transmogrification. What would a future hold when old, spent orthodoxies, religious, scientific or philosophical, that no longer serve, gradually fade away. What would replace them ? Would they offer an open system that evolves and adapts, or would they just become more orthodoxies later on ?
Breakthrough/Discovery > Integration / Synthesis > Stabilization / Strength > Ossification / Orthodoxy > Disintegration / Breakdown > Chaos / Bifurcation-Bridge > Breakthrough/Discovery ........ ?

Head (about 4 cm in all) of St John the Baptist (Joannes Prodromos, in Church-Slavonic), Russia, 18th century (bronze and enamel). Originally, this foldable pocket iconostasis was a tripartite depiction of the Deesis (showing Christ Pantokrator in the centre whilst St. John and the Virgin Mary asking God for mercy on behalf of humanity).
The object is as close to the camera (a bit more than one meter) as possible. The softness of the lens (mirror reflex) is matched by the soft condition of the bronze. Whether mercy happened or not, this iconostasis has been used a lot.
The monastery was established between 1070 and 1077 by Vsevolod, son of Yaroslav the Wise. It was a family cloister of Vsevolod's son Vladimir Monomakh and his descendants.Only a few churches of this monastery have survived over the centuries. One of these is the Collegiate Church of Saint Michael, which was built on behest of Vsevolod I and partly reconstructed between 1766 and 1769 by architect M. I. Yurasov. The Ukrainian baroque structures include the magnificent 5-domed St. George Cathedral, Transfiguration of the Saviour Church and refectory, all dating from 1696-1701. A belltower, commissioned by the Hetman Danylo Apostol, was erected in 1727-33 and built up in 1827-31.
The National Bank of Ukraine has issued a jubilee coin with a face value of 5 hryvnias. This coin celebrates St. Michael's Vydubychi Monastery, which was founded by Vsevolod, a son of Yaroslav the Wise, in an area called Vydubychi, which lies on the southern outskirts of Kyiv. According to a chronicle, the area derives its name from the Ukrainian word “vidibati” (to surface). In that area, a wooden idol of the pagan god Perun surfaced after being dumped into the Dnipro River near the Old Kyiv Mount when Christianity was declared the official of Kyiv Rus. St. Michael's Church, which was built in the latter quarter of the 11th century, was the monastery's first masonry church. In the early 12th century, the monastery became one of the places where chronicles were written. The monastery owned many lands with crossing points on the Dnipro River and its tributary - the Lybid River. The monastery played an active role in the political life of Kyiv Rus. Before battle, soldiers usually gathered near St. Michael's Church. The monastery, which is a national architectural monument, took its modern shape in the late 17th and the early 18th centuries, when several structures were added to it. These included St. George's Cathedral, one of the best masterpieces of the Ukrainian Baroque style, the monastery refectory, the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, and a bell tower.

Watcher and sacred wall of Orthodoxy, another of our monasteries on some corner of the Greek land which the devotion, the faith of the monks there remodeled in "the ancient beauty" always with the obvious Divine help.
We have been asked and it is absolutely respectful not to give more details.

The most beautiful cemetery, to my knowledge, is undoubtedly the Holy Church in honor of St. George in the village of Glinos, which, according to a built-in inscription, was erected in 1818 at the site of Paliokopria, where the village was originally then.
Recently completed work of restoration, landscaping and configuration of the surrounding area in full respect of the architectural character of the post-Byzantine monument,as designated by the Ministry of Culture, to be bequeathed to future generations well-established and more beautiful.

The cathedral of complex fate, many times was partially destroyed, rebuilt. During the Soviet period it was closed and used for other purposes.
It is very strange that one of the main Orthodox churches of the city has no domes, and for the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit the domes should be green. However, the cathedral was formerly Catholic, and was not remodeled after conversion to Orthodoxy.

The Mother of God with a baby is an icon created in 1884-1885 by Mykhailo Vrubel for the decoration of the iconostasis of St. Cyril's Church in Kyiv. Despite the fact that the image is made in accordance with all the canons of Orthodox iconography, art critics and artists note its expressiveness and unusualness. The faces of the Mother of God and the infant Christ were copied by Vrubel from the wife and youngest daughter of the art critic Adrian Prakhov*.
Holy Archbishop Athanasius of Alexandria, known as "The Great" and "Father of Orthodoxy", is the first in the chronological order among the holy fathers of the "golden" IV century of patristic writing. He occupies a special place among the greatest theologians of the period of trinitarian disputes, he is called a great fighter for the unity of the Word.
* Adrian Viktorovych Prakhov - art critic, archaeologist and art critic, professor of the Kyiv Imperial University of St. Volodymyr, leader of a group of artists (Viktor Vasnetsov, Mykhailo Vrubel, Mykhailo Nesterov, Pavlo Svedomskyi and Vilhelm Kotarbinskyi) who painted the Volodymyr Cathedral in 1884–1885

Orthodoxy then is not so much a settled system of beliefs as a ‘tool,’ a set of self-reflective practices, ‘a tradition of discriminating, imaging and symbolising.’ It is the church’s therapeutic response to the trauma of Christ’s resurrection. The church remains orthodox only to the extent that it remains attentive and answerable to that universal event which lies at the origin of its life.
---Christ the Stranger: The Theology of Rowan Williams, by Benjamin Myers, pg 47
John the Baptist was a Jewish preacher active in the area of the Jordan River in the early first century. He is also known as Saint John the Forerunner in Eastern Orthodoxy and Oriental Orthodoxy, John the Immerser in some Baptist Christian traditions, and as the prophet Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyā (Arabic: النبي يحيى, An-Nabī Yaḥyā) in Islam. He is sometimes alternatively referred to as John the Baptiser.
«The paradox of all four Gospels is that “the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God” (Mark 1:1) begins not with the preaching of Jesus Christ, but with the preaching of another person. And the formula with which Jesus began His mission—“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 4:17)—does not belong to Jesus. Its author is John the Baptist (Matt. 3:2), or the Forerunner, with which nickname he entered the history of the Church.»
Google translate/
