Vuelve hacia atrás la vista, caminante,

verás lo que te queda de camino;

ilumina tu marcha hacia adelante.

Es del pasado el porvenir semblante;

como se irá la vida así se vino;

cabe volver las riendas del destino

como se vuelve del revés un guante.

Lleva tu espalda reflejado el frente;

sube la niebla por el río arriba

y se resuelve encima de la fuente;

la lanzadera en su vaivén se aviva;

desnacerás un día de repente;

The Estós Valley (in Benasquese Aragonese, Vall d'Estós or Ball d'Estós) is a Pyrenean valley located in the Aragonese region of La Ribagorza.

It lies in the northwestern part of the Benasque Valley (northeast of the province of Huesca) and within the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park. To the north of this valley, which is of glacial origin, is the Perdiguero massif (3,221 m), and to the south, the Posets massif (3,375 m). This valley, oriented from west to east, is approximately 12 km long, and the Estós River, a tributary of the Ésera River, flows through its bottom. Clarabides, Gías, and Oô are peaks that also exceed 3,000 m and form the border with France. The valley's altitude ranges from 1,400 m to 3,375 m.

Since 1994, it has been part of the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park due to its significant ecological value. The predominant landscape is that of the high Pyrenees, with a good representation of the alpine, subalpine, and montane climate zones. The predominant flora consists of mountain pastures and forests, including conifers (black pine and fir), deciduous trees (beech, aspen, birch, willow, maple, and hazel), and, as main shrubs, boxwood, juniper, and rhododendron. Several Pyrenean endemic species are also found. As for the fauna, all the animals present in the high Pyrenean mountain ecosystems are found here, with a significant population of Pyrenean chamois and roe deer, and the most representative birds being the capercaillie, the ptarmigan, and the bearded vulture.

The Estós River, fed by numerous ravines and streams originating from the many glacial lakes (ibones), the permanent snowfields, and some of the southernmost glaciers in Europe, flows through the valley floor.

The valley is a popular tourist destination for mountain hikers, climbers, ski mountaineers, and alpinists. Trout fishing and big game hunting (chamois, roe deer, and wild boar) are also popular. In the summer, its slopes serve as grazing land for a large herd of cattle.

Access to the valley is primarily on foot via a network of well-marked trails, although there is a forest track restricted to authorized vehicles. Along the way, you'll find numerous shepherd's huts and a staffed mountain refuge (1,895 m) managed by a warden from the Aragonese Mountain Federation.

Pitt Lake is the second-largest lake in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. About 53.5 square kilometres in area, it is about 25 km long and about 4.5 km wide at its widest. It is one of the world's relatively few tidal lakes, and among the largest. In Pitt Lake, there is on average a three foot tide range; thus Pitt Lake is separated from sea level and tidal waters during most hours of each day during the 15 foot tide cycle of the Pitt River and Strait of Georgia estuary immediately downstream.The lake's southern tip is 20 km upstream from The Pitt River confluence with the Fraser River and is 40 km east of Downtown Vancouver.

Pitt Lake is in a typical U-shaped glacial valley in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains. The overdeepening of the lower end of the valley over the span of the Wisconsin glaciation created a trough over 140 m below current sea level. After initial glacial retreat at around 13,000 years ago a saltwater fjord occupied this basin when relative sea levels were still ca 120 to 140m above current levels in the region. Unlike neighbouring Indian Arm and Howe Sound farther west, this fjord basin became partly cut off from tidal waters by sedimentation of the lower Fraser River ca 10,500 years ago, and Pitt Lake is now considered a tidal fjord lake.

Pitt Lake is the second largest of a series of north-south oriented fjord-lakes incising the southern slopes of the Pacific Ranges, the largest being Harrison Lake located 60 km to the east. The other fjord-lakes include Coquitlam Lake, Alouette Lake, Stave Lake, and Chehalis Lake.

The Pitt River drains into the northern end of Pitt Lake. The western shore of Pitt Lake are protected within Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, while most of the eastern shore are protected within Golden Ears Provincial Park. The southern end of Pitt Lake features an extensive marshland called Pitt Polder. While most of this marshland has since been drained for agricultural use, the northernmost portion is strictly protected in order to provide critical habitat for migratory birds.

Communities

The community of Pitt Meadows and the First Nations reserve of Pitt Lake Indian Reserve 5 are located at the southern end of the lake. Just southwest of the lake is the community of Port Coquitlam, which is across the Pitt River from Pitt Meadows. At the north end of the lake is a locality named Alvin, which is a transport and shipping point for logging companies and their employees.

"You are the patient one Mademoiselle," said Poirot to Miss Debenham.

She shrugged her shoulders slightly "What else can one do?"

"You are a philosopher Mademoiselle?"

"That implies a detatched attitude I think my attitude is more selfish. I have learned to save myself useless emotion."

In August 2000, my wife and I made a trip across Canada on the American Orient Express (AOE) from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Montreal, Quebec. The train traveled mostly over CN rails, stopping at various locations for sightseeing or servicing. Two CN motors and an Amtrak F40 were our power for this part of the journey. In this scene, the train is stopped for servicing and some leg-stretching at Capreol, Ontario, on August 17, 2000. Our assigned AOE sleeping car was the BERLIN, which now rolls as a private car for Patrick Henry Creative Promotions of Houston, Texas, becoming the third car operating under that banner.

In the hidden face lies the true beauty, not in the visible appearances.

I gradually resume processing of my travel photos taken this summer in the "Rest of Canada" to be at my computer amidst of such beautiful scenery was the last of my desires at the time, now it gives me the impression to relive some of those moments.
