This is the 800th photo I show on Flickr. 2021 also marks my 8th year on Flickr (I became a member in 2013), and, as most of you know, I've also re-discovered photos I've taken during a trip to Usedom (Baltic Sea) back in 2013. A nice coincidence, isn't it? So I decided to choose a photo from that trip as my 800th upload. I've learned a lot about photography during these past eight Flickr years. Back then, for instance, whenever there were clouds on a day I wanted to go out to take photos, I used to think "Stupid clouds, I want a blue sky." Nowadays, whenever I go out to take photos, and the sky is blue, blue, and only blue, I think "Nice, but I wish there were at least a few clouds." ;) So I had not been happy about the clouds on the day I took this photo, but I'm happy about them in retrospect, because they add such a nice drama to the image. Isn't it a good thing that we never stop learning?
Like my previous upload, this is another re-edit of a photo I've already uploaded to Flickr years ago. It's also a slider, because it's Sunday :) Processed in DXO PhotoLab 4, Lightroom, Color Efex, and Luminar AI – and the main difference to the original photo (please check out the first comment), apart from a bolder, more colourful processing, is the swallow. Which I've borrowed from another photo taken on that day at this same jetty at the Kölpinsee, a small lake 200 metres behind the Baltic Sea shoreline. This photo had the better, more harmonious point of view, the other photo, taken from a lower angle of view (so you couldn't really sea much of the lake) had the swallow, so why not combine both :)

Dies ist mein 800. Foto, das ich auf Flickr zeige :) Zufälligerweise ist es auch mein 8. Jahr hier bei Flickr, 2013 bin ich beigetreten, und da ich, wie Ihr ja wisst, kürzlich beim Durchstöbern meines Archivs den Ordner mit Usedom-Fotos vom Mai 2013 (wieder)gefunden habe, dachte ich, dass für "Nr. 800" ein Bild aus meinem Flickr-Beitrittsjahr gut passen würde ;) In diesen acht Jahren habe ich viel über Fotografie gelernt. Z.B. war ich hier damals gar nicht glücklich über die vielen Wolken gewesen, ein "schöner" Fotohimmel hatte doch bitte blau zu sein. Das sehe ich heute natürlich ganz anders – und so bin ich im Rückblick sogar sehr froh über diesen dramatischen Wolkenhimmel. Wie gut, dass wir nie aufhören zu lernen :)
Wie schon mein vorheriger Upload ist auch dies eine Neubearbeitung eines Fotos, dass ich schon vor Jahren hier hochgeladen hatte (Ihr findet es wieder im ersten Kommentar). Der Hauptunterschied zum Original, abgesehen von der kräftigeren, farbenfrohen Neugestaltung, ist natürlich die Schwalbe, die ich mir von einem anderen Foto, das ich an jenem Tag an diesem Bootssteg am Kölpinsee (200 Meter hinter der Ostseeküste gelegen) aufgenommen hatte, geliehen habe. Dieses Foto hat den harmonischeren Blickwinkel, das andere Foto, am Anfang des Stegs und aus einer viel tieferen Position aus aufgenommen, sodass man nur wenig vom so schön glitzernden See sehen konnte, hatte die Schwalbe. Warum also nicht beide kombinieren, es ist ja schließlich (Sliders) Sonntag: Aus zwei mach eins :)

But it's just sand, Baltic Sea sand. The announced snowstorm has spared Berlin, and all that we have at the moment is a strong wind from the east and a light snow dance. When I flipped through my photo back catalogue, I stumbled upon the "Usedom 2013" folder and realised that the images I'd taken during a short trip to the Baltic Sea island Usedom back in 2013 weren't that bad at all... Usedom, a beautiful place with long beaches, impressive high coasts, and famous sea spas, is also humorously referred to as "the Berliners' bathing tub", because the Baltic Sea (and its islands) is only a few hours (by regional train) away from Berlin and has therefore always been a favourite holiday amd excursion destination.
The images were taken with my very first MFT camera, the tiny Pen E-PL3. Back then, I'd been shooting JPG only, and I thought that this nice- but also a little dull-looking image (it had been overcast most of the days we'd spent there) would benefit from some extra sliding :) HSS, everyone, stay safe and warm :)
Weiß wie Schnee
Aber es ist natürlich bloß Sand, Ostseesand, während der für dieses Wochenende angekündigte Schneesturm kurzerhand beschlossen hat, einen Bogen um Berlin zu machen. Beim Durchstöbern meines Fotoarchivs bin ich auf den Ordner "Usedom 2013" gestoßen und habe festgestellt, dass die Fotos von diesem Kurztrip auf die schöne Ostseeinsel vor fast acht Jahren gar nicht so schlecht sind wie gedacht. Usedom wird ja scherzhaft auch als "Berliner Badewanne" bezeichnet, weil die Ostsee inklusive ihrer Inseln selbst mit der lahmen Regionalbahn schnell zu erreichen ist; auch wenn wir uns damals, in der Woche vor Pfingsten, mit diversen Jugendgruppen in den üblichen drei Wagen quasi stapeln durften, denn warum sollte man auch einen zusätzlichen Wagen anhängen, auch wenn mehr Fahrkarten als üblich verkauft werden. DB-Logik...
Aufgenommen mit meiner ersten MFT-Kamera, der winzigen Pen E-PL3, als JPG (damals hatte ich mich an RAW noch nicht herangetraut); gestern habe ich dann bei der Neubearbeitung noch ordentlich in die digitale Filterkiste gegriffen :) Ich wünsche Euch einen schönen Rest-Sonntag und einen guten Wochenstart!

I've started to collect older, already processed images in a "Flickr waiting line folder" so that they are easier to find than in the depths of my Lightroom Catalogue. I'm sure you know the "problem". We collect so many images on our hard drive, some of which we don't like right away, and we only see their potential much later, others that we like from the start, but somehow there are so many other new photos competing for an upload so that many of these photos are left behind. I often go through LR and flip back to earlier images, and I think "Oh, this one is actually nice, I should process it and post it!", but it's the "wrong" day for that particular image in the Flickr world of theme-related groups; the next day I'll see another image and I'll think the same, and by the end of that (or any other) week I have usually forgotten about any of the archived images I thought "postable". And so on ;-) Hence the special folder, and this is the first one from that folder, captured (with the lovely 45mm F/1.8) back in July 2018 on my Mother's birthday at a nice Café and Restaurant, the "LuLa Deli & Grill", around the corner. Meanwhile I have quite many new images from a visit to the Olympic stadium this week, and I'm busy with processing these and will post a few soon, others later, so stay tuned :-)
So, dear Flickr friends, treat yourself to something nice for the weekend, stay safe and healthy, and take care! And I'd like to send special greetings to my Flickr friends who live on the US West Coast and experience the horrible wildfires. Ich habe mir jetzt endlich mal einen "Flickr-Warteschlange"-Ordner angelegt, in den alle älteren, eigentlich bereits fix und fertig entwickelten Bilder wandern, die sonst in den Tiefen des Lightroom-Katalogs verschwinden. Zwar schaue ich regelmäßig auch die älteren Bilder durch, aber dann passt ein Bild nicht zum speziellen "Flickr-Tag" bzw. einem Gruppenthema, am nächsten Tag entdecke ich dann schon ein weiteres Bild, von dem ich denke "Das könnte ich ja auch mal zeigen" - und am Ende der Woche habe ich die Bilder nicht mehr auf dem Schirm. Und wieder von vorn. Ihr kennt das sicher ;-) Dieses ist nun das erste Bild aus diesem speziellen Ordner, aufgenommen im Juli 2018 mit dem feinen, kleinen 45mm F1.8 in einem netten Restaurant-Café, dem "LuLa Deli & Grill", bei mir um die Ecke. Nach so vielen Low-Key-Makros und Architektur- bzw. Landschaftsfotos dachte ich, dass es ruhig mal wieder ein nettes Blümchen sein darf. Zumal dann demnächst wieder viel Architektur kommen wird, da ich noch was vom Cube in petto habe und diese Woche auch mal wieder im Olympiastadion war und dort endlich wieder nach Herzenslust fotografieren konnte :-)

Laowa C-Dreamer 7.5 mm F/2
My 900th photo upload on Flickr :) I stumbled upon this interior photo of the Reichstag dome while flipping through my photo folders in search of a photo that might be a worthy No. 900. Back then the Laowa 7.5 mm F/2 prime lens had been my widest lens. Now that the dome is open to the public again, I can't wait to plan another visit, and this time I will bring the M.Zuiko 7-14 wide-angle zoom along. The dome isn't easy to photograph, and I'm curious if 7 mm is that much wider compared to 7.5 mm in an interior setting and whether I will benefit from the extra flexibility a zoom lens offers.
Processing-wise, this is a slider already for Sunday. Back in 2019 I still had not been used to doing exposure bracketing regularly, so the original RAW file had been a little on the dark side. To reproduce the open, airy atmosphere of the Reichstag dome, I went both into Color Efex and Luminar Neo and individually processed the RAW file using the high-key filters of both programmes. The final result is a combination of the Color Efex and the Luminar Neo image done by blending in the layers in PS. I hope you like it.
Mein 900. Foto auf Flickr :) Anlässlich dieses "Jubiläums" habe ich meine Foto-Ordner nach einem Bild durchsucht, dass der Nr. 900 würdig ist, ich hoffe, ich habe das richtige Foto gewählt. Die Reichstagskuppel ist gar nicht so einfach zu fotografieren. Bei meinem Besuch 2019 hatte ich mein damals weitestes Objektiv dabei, das Laowa 7.5 F/2, eine Festbrennweite. Da die Kuppel erfreulicherweise endlich wieder geöffnet ist, werde ich wohl bald einen weiteren Besuch planen – und dieses Mal wird das M.Zuiko 7-14 mit von der Partie sein. Ich bin schon gespannt, ob der halbe Millimeter mehr am weiten Ende in Innenräumen wirklich einen so großen Unterschied macht. Und ich hoffe, von der Flexibilät des Zooms zu profitieren.
Bearbeitungstechnisch ist das eigentlich schon ein Slider für Sonntag. Ich hatte damals noch nicht regelmäßig daran gedacht, bei schwierigen Lichtverhältnissen Belichtungsreihen zu machen und so war die RAW-Datei ein wenig zu dunkel geraten. Um die luftig-leichte Atmosphäre im Innern der Kuppel wiederzugeben, habe ich mich hier also an einer kleinen High-Key-Spielerei versucht, und zwar sowohl in Color Efex als auch in Luminar Neo. Beide Bilder habe ich dann in PS miteinander kombiniert. Das Endergebnis seht Ihr hier, ich hoffe, es gefällt Euch.
Diese Aufnahme, schon ein wenig älter, habe ich in meinem Ordner wiederentdeck und ich weiß, ich werde dort hin wieder reisen.

When I took this picture, it was just before. Just before Corona defined our life so new. And I had no idea. Today I started looking for a picture subject to "round" – I found it in one of my folders and immediately saw a "clock" in it. And I have put it back in relation to the topic that is currently determining everything ... I hope we don't get as dry as these flowers out of this situation. We will do it fresh and with new ideas – hopefully everyone healthy – and hopefully as soon as it will be possible :-)

Als ich dieses Bild gemacht habe, war es kurz davor. Kurz bevor Corona unser Leben so neu definiert hat. Und ich hatte keine Ahnung. Heute habe ich mich auf die Suche nach einem Bildmotiv zu "rund" gemacht – in einem meiner Ordner habe ich dieses gefunden und gleich eine "Uhr" darin gesehen. Und habe es schon wieder mit dem gerade alles bestimmenden Thema in Bezug gesetzt ... Ich hoffe, wir gehen nicht so vertrocknet wie diese Blumen aus dieser Situation heraus. Sondern frisch und mit neuen Ideen – hoffentlich alle gesund – und hoffentlich so bald wie es möglich sein wird :-)

Der Bundesbankbunker Cochem war ein Bunker der Deutschen Bundesbank in Cochem (Rheinland-Pfalz) zur Aufbewahrung einer Notstandswährung. Von 1964 bis 1988 wurden in der streng geheimen Anlage bis zu 15 Milliarden Mark gelagert, die Deutschland im Falle einer Hyperinflation, verursacht durch den Kalten Krieg, vor einer nationalen Wirtschaftskrise bewahren sollten.
Habe ich beim Aufräumen meiner Ordner entdeckt. An einem trüben Novembertag strahlte mich dieses von der Morgensonne im letzten Frühjahr so schön durchleuchtete Blatt an.
Ein kleiner Lichtblick in dieser angespannten Zeit.

The idea for an exhibition of my paintings concerns me very much. It is difficult to find appropriate galleries or museums and events. I imagine large, crouching posters or screen films of my paintings that could be attached to a suitable wall. There they would perhaps rather be noticed and respected than in empty galleries.
Die Ideen zu einer Ausstellung meiner Malereien beschäftigt mich sehr. Schwierig ist es, geeignete Galerien oder Museen und Termine zu finden. Ich stelle mir große, geduckte Plakate oder Bild-Folien von meinen Gemälden vor, die an passende Wände angebracht werden könnten. Dort würden sie vielleicht eher bemerkt und geachtet als in leeren Galerien.
Meet Heinrich. Heinrich, who will be 80 this year, was a marshal today for a demonstration in Darmstadt, Germany. The people, mainly pensioners and some students, were demonstrating against the financial policies of the German government, who prefer to spend money on weapons rather than on education, health care and pensions. Heinrich was heavily armed with some flowers. He said he started going to demonstration back in 1968, and hasn't stopped since. He was a real gentleman of the old school, and it was an honour to talk to him.

Normally i post analogue pictures here, but i recently found on one of my hard disks a folder with digital images i took 12 years ago with a Fujifilm FinePix F30 while riding a bus on a rainy day in the city of Krasnodar in South Russia.
Auf meiner Homepage befinden sich u.a. Ordner "Helgoland" und "Basstölpel" den man sich anschauen sollte!

Es war ein regnerischer Tag und ich habe einfach während der durch die nassen Scheiben des Busses die Stadt fotografiert.

Normalerweise poste ich hier nur analoge Fotos, aber kürzlich habe ich auf meiner Festplatte einen Ordner mit alten Digitalfotos entdeckt, die ich vor 12 Jahren mit einer Fujifilm FinePix F30 in Krasnodar in Südrussland aufgenommen habe. Es war ein regnerischer Tag und ich habe einfach während der durch die nassen Scheiben des Busses die Stadt fotografiert.
Normally i post analogue pictures here, but i recently found on one of my hard disks a folder with digital images i took 12 years ago with a Fujifilm FinePix F30 while riding a bus on a rainy day in the city of Krasnodar in South Russia.
This is my next picture for my weekly theme 'Daily Life' and the 365 `17 group.
Always a nice idea to read in old records for new and fresh ideas.
Captured with a Nikon Df and a Nikkor AF-S 58mm ƒ1:1,4, post processed in Lightroom using VSCO Film.

As of today, the Bavarian government has imposed a curfew -

they now keep the entire population in prison.
I'm not allowed to work (as a university lecturer),
I'm not allowed to give concerts (as a pianist)
I'm not allowed to teach private students
I don't make any money! What should I live on?
And most freelancers are like me!
This is the wrong way!
With the money that is lost worldwide through government strategies
complete protection of all so-called 'risk patients' could easily have been guaranteed!
How long will the world's citizens continue to tolerate this?
