We’re continuing to ensure we’re prepared to keep you safe at the thousand-plus large-scale events that we police in Greater Manchester every year with the specialist training of hundreds of our officers.
Our rigorous week-long public order training programme has been nationally-recognised as properly equipping us for a whole variety of events – such as sporting fixtures, festivals, carnivals, and protests – to maintain order in circumstances where there is a risk to ourselves and the public.
Each year we police around 1200 such events in GM that mostly pass without any significant incident; however, we ensure that in the rare instances issues do arise, we have officers specially trained in maintaining order with the tactics and skills to keep the wider public and our officers safe.
As well as putting 500 new officers through their paces every year, we have many more experienced officers who also go through the intensive course to refresh their knowledge and skills so that we have the necessary number of qualified cops to be deployed to such big events.
Chief Inspector Kirsten Buggy, of our Specialist Operational Training, People and Development Branch said: “All our officers will police major events given the nature of serving for one of the largest communities in the country, but we also ensure that a high amount of those officers is trained in using the enhanced tactics that may be needed on some occasions.
“Part of the training our officers do here is very-much a last resort and can seem excessive to some, but we’ve seen in the past how valuably important it is that we can call on such an insurance policy for the rare situations where public order needs to be regained and maintained to keep you safe.
“This is the kind of policing that goes to show just how brave and committed our officers are at being on the front line and doing what they can to keep communities safe from those who may look to cause harm, and year-on-year we’re making sure that more of our officers gain the experience that this vital training can offer to the benefit of us all.”
We’re currently recruiting more officers than ever – fancy joining our team too? Find out how you can here: www.gmp.police.uk/recruitment

It was a rare protest for the Peninsula people to witness. “ஏதாவது பிரச்சினையோ?” ~ “Is there any problem?”, “என்ன பிரச்சினை?” ~ “What is the problem?”, “இங்கை என்ன நடக்குது?” ~ “What is happening here?” a few onlookers, passers ~ by and shop keepers asked me while the protest was getting underway on a balmy day in Jaffna. “இங்கை உண்மையா என்ன நடக்குது? ~ “What is actually happening here” asked the owner of a newly built restaurant, while I was running to the restaurant roof top to capture the moments on my camera.
There was chaos as the protesters arrived in Jaffna town with placards in Tamil. Police in the vicinity came closer and asked them not to block the traffic. Verbal argument took place between the Police and the protesters. But the protesters kept chanting and walking. The traffic came to a standstill for a couple of moments, as the protesters took the space on the mot busiest road in Jaffna, the Hospital road while carrying the placards in Tamil ~ “யாழ்ப்பாண ஊடகவியலாளர்களுக்கு யார் பாதுகாப்பு?” ~ “Who is responsible for the lives of the journalists in Jaffna?”, “ஊடக சுதந்திரம் பாதுகாக்கப்பட வேண்டும்” ~ “Media freedom needs to be protected”, “எப்போ முடியும் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில் அடக்குமுறைகள்?” ~ “When will the suppression come to an end in Jaffna?”, “ஊடக சுதந்திரத்தைப் பாதுகாக்க ஒன்றுபடுவோம்” ~ Let’s unite to protect media freedom”, “குகநாதனுக்கு விழுந்த அடி உண்மைக்கு விழுந்த பேரிடி”~ Assault on Kuganathan is an assault on the Truth, “ஊடகத்துறைக்கு எதிரான அடக்குமுறையை ஒழிப்போம்” ~ Eradicate Suppression Against the Media” “ஊடகத்தின் மீதான தாக்குதலை உடனே நிறுத்து” ~ “Stop Attacking the Media Immediately”, “ஜனநாயகத்தின் குரலை ஒடுக்காதே” ~ “Don’t Suppress the voice of Democracy”, “தேர்தலில் தோற்றவர்களா மண்டையைப் பிளந்தார்கள்?” ~ “Did they split the head those who lost the elections?”

Dolphin
Order: Cetacea
Dolphins are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orcas and pilot whales. They are mammals and breathe through a blowhole on the top of their head. Dolphin coloration varies, but they are generally gray in color with darker backs than the rest of their bodies.
Go Wild!Help protect dolphins from unsafe tuna fishing and dirty drilling off our coasts! By Adopting a Dolphin, you'll make a splash with a truly meaningful gift that helps protect these playful and highly intelligent animals!
Size The Amazonian River dolphin is the smallest of the dolphin species at five feet in length. It weighs about 100 lbs. The largest dolphin species is the orca. Male orcas grow to about 18 feet in length and weigh about 19,000 pounds!
Lifespan Most dolphin species have a long lifespan. It is estimated that some individuals may have lived for more than 100 years.
Diet
Variety including fish, squid and crustaceans.
Population
It is difficult to estimate population numbers since there are many different species spanning a large geographic area.
Range
Most species live in tropical and temperate oceans throughout the world. Five species live in rivers.
Behavior
Dolphins are well known for their agility and playful behavior, making them a favorite of wildlife watchers. Many species will leap out of the water, spy-hop (rise vertically out of the water to view their surroundings) and follow ships, often synchronizing their movements with one another. Scientists believe that dolphins conserve energy by swimming alongside ships, a practice known as bow-riding.
Dolphins live in social groups of five to several hundred. They use echolocation to find prey and often hunt together by surrounding a school of fish, trapping them and taking turns swimming through the school and catching fish. Dolphins will also follow seabirds, other whales and fishing boats to feed opportunistically on the fish they scare up or discard.

Rideau Hall has been the official residence of every governor general of Canada since 1867, and their workplace since 1940. It is a National Historic Site with nearly two centuries of history, and has become an important gathering place and site of official activities.
The villa, which forms the main part of Rideau Hall, was built in 1838, by Thomas MacKay, as a home for his family. In 1868, the year after Confederation, the Government of Canada purchased the house and grounds, and declared it the official residence of Canada’s governors general.
During the mandate of Canada’s 3rd governor general, Lord Dufferin (1872–1878), the Ballroom and the Tent Room were built as wings on either side of the front entrance. The Tent Room was originally designed as both an indoor tennis court and reception room. It is now used for official and ceremonial functions.
In 1913, during the tenure of the Duke of Connaught (1911–1916), work was completed on the interior entrance hall and the current front entrance. The front entrance features the massive Royal Arms, visible from the driveway and said to be among the largest in the world. Also in 1913, the Long Gallery was added and the Dining Room was enlarged. Over the years, the grounds, the building and its interiors have evolved to better reflect and reinforce Rideau Hall’s identity as a national symbol.

The Doorbell-ian - a leather doorbell /jangler made to hang on your holiday doorknob
www.etsy.com/shop/stevebleatherworks/search?search_query=...
Meet the Doorbell-ian!
The doorbell-ian (doorbell) is a special one-off series that I've made for this upcoming gift giving season. This is something new for me and I hope you like it! Each unit has a decorative penny concho thats dated, if thats of any significance to you, go for it!
Even in the digital world, we, for the most part have doors in our lives. I think most of us would agree, that most of these doors would benefit from some sort of an advance warning device, that would let us know that a person was coming through the door.
Great for: office, shop, garage, kitchen, front door. I showed it in use on my dirty shop door, not exactly a fine showcase, but give me a break, and please pretend its a gritty GUESS or Chanel ad, or something, ok?
Now many of the doorbell devices I've seen of this sort are the loud, cowbelly kind of things that make you jump (both the proprietor as well as visitor) - and I hate that, so these are not that type of obnoxious - they have a muted, nice sound - not tuned, but nice. These bells, many of them sparkly, are to reflect the season in which they are given - so they have a slight Festivus thing going on.
OK _ so now lets talk Bells. There are many folks who take bells super seriously and collect these beauties - for age, aesthetics and sound. The bells on my doorbell-ians are not of this type, they are not this fancy, But if you are so inclined and you are a bell collector, you can cut these bells off and restring it with your very best bells! Have at it!
This doorbell has been cut from the very best domestically made 10oz , vegetable tanned leather. The doorbell is lined with mission grain pigskin and stitched with domestically sourced nylon thread.
The doorbell hangs from the softest, toughest deerskin, cut into a thong, provided by a hide from one of my customers: Boomer. You can adjust the length of the thong to suit your application.
The deerskin runs through a brass grommet with a classy vintage patina (not shiny, and new). I use only the best dyes, hardware and threads - and a ton of information is available on my web site.
I also make knife and tool sheaths from heavy weight vegetable tanned cowhide. I've made guitar straps, leashes and wristbands - all with a different look and design as your commonly used to seeing. If you're looking for something you don't see, ask. I am always up for a challenge, within reason.
I have happy customers, please take a look:

In order to produce the best quality halloumi cheese, Zita procures its milk from local farmers of the Paphos region, the place that has traditionally been famous for the best quality of sheep and goat’s milk on the island. Using the traditional techniques that our ancestors taught us along with our own technical expertise and know how, Zita managed to turn halloumi production into a controllable process that complies to all European and International legislation and in conformance with the principles of ISO 22000 - HACCP system for food safety and hygiene, BRC, IFS and US FDA.

The neighborhood I was in upper Manhattan had cones placed along a large area of street, with these yellow signs posted. I shot a picture of one, but didn't read it until I got home later. Seems the street was cordoned off for a film shoot for the TV show Law & Order SVU.
Note the wording of the sign. They will tow your car if you don't move it, but they'll tow it to the "nearest legal spot", which I guess doesn't mean the impound. I wonder if they still charge you?
In order to create and effectively utilize the collage to create movement, I combined what would have been three separate pictures.
In order to create this photo I took pictures of three different photo ideas and put them together in the same scene. I put the camera I program mode so that the photos would create different perspectives on the same scene.
This photo utilizes movement both from one body to the next and within the dress and hair. The contrast in both color and texture creates emphasis. The contrast in color also adds to the emphasis from the dress to the tunnel and pale skin to dark hair. The absence of major body parts, such as the knee, adds to the brokenness of the collage.
If I could change anything I would have just taken more up close pictures.
God of Wings
Description: Urbanus is a genus of butterflies in the order Lepidoptera, subdivision Bombycina, superfamily Papilionoidea (still being called Hesperioidea by some entities), family Hesperiidae and subfamily Eudaminae. They possess a wingspan of approximately 38-48mm, averaging at, seemingly mostly, 46mm. The subject portrayed is SEEMINGLY a male, but there are no guarantees on this information as it is based on very tiny visual details and I might be mistaken.
Synonyms to this taxon include:
Goniurus procne (Plötz, 1880)
Teleus procne.
The larvae are polyphytophagous.
According to Cesar of Insetologia, the identification is suggested as U. procne because:
"All should occur in the Ceará state (www.biotaneotropica.org.br/v11n4/pt/fullpaper?bn019110420...), I can't discard anything from here;
U. simplicius' (www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/urbanus_simplicius_live1.htm) highlight seem to be due to the patterns on the second pair of wings;
In BugGuide (bugguide.net/node/view/1379402/bgimage), someone comments about a clearer mark beneath the club of U. teleus (www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/urbanus_teleus_live1.htm), differentiating them from U. procne (www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/urbanus_procne_live3.htm), which in your specimen seems absent;
I could also note the same trait of U. teleus in U. tanna (www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/urbanus_tanna_live.htm), not being, however, evident in all specimens;
In U. tanna, the fringe of the second pair of wings is more highlighted, more clear, which merges with the previous characteristic indicating this is a U. procne." - www.insetologia.com.br/2018/09/borboleta-urbanus-no-ceara...
They are located from Argentina, North through Central America and Mexico to Southern Texias. Strays can be rarely found up to Southern New Mexico, Southern Arizona and Southern California. They have a very wide distribution in Brazil, South America.
U. procne possess brown wings. The forewings possess two thin, longitudinal white stripes, the one distal from the body being shorter. Scent scales on the costal fold on the leading edge of the forewings are characteristic to the males. The brown spot close to the costa is separated from the inner stripe on the underside of the hindwings. Adults are tailed. Eggs are laid by the female on the host plants; when born, the larvae will feed on the leaves. When young, the larvae will live in a nest made of a folded leaf. Larvae are green with a reddish "neck" and a large dark head, varying in a darker coloring throughout instars and can reach around 35mm by the last instar. When older, the larvae are red-brown with a finely stippled white and broken white mid-dorsal line. The head is large with a constricted "neck" and narrow pronotum. They will hide during the day on the base of the plant and will feed during night. The pupa is made inside a loose cocoon, hidden and camouflaged in leaf litter. (books.google.com.br/books?id=qMwOAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA32&...)
The pupa is dark brown and can be found here:
www.thedauphins.net/brown_longtail_life_cycle_study.html
Eggs are rounded and whitish-yellow. The egg-adult process takes around 40 days.
In Southern Texas there are three broods throughout the year. Host plants include Cynodon dactylon ((L.) Pers., 1805) (Poaceae: Chloridoideae: Cynodonteae) ("Bermuda grass"), Sorghum halepense ((L.) Pers.) (Poaceae: Panicoideae: Andropogogoneae: Sorghinae) ("Johnsongrass") and most of the Gramineae family.
Their habitats include grassy openings in tropical and subtropical primary or secondary forests. The species is suffering decline in the lower Rio Grande Valley, requiring security, monitoring and conservation. Seemingly, they are not under threat due to their very wide distribution, but they are rare in some of those areas like and, especially, the periphery.
