Macro Mondays, theme - 'contradiction'.
Katniss Everdeen eventually became just another politico, instrumental in re-implementing many of The Capitol's worst plans, and inexplicably developed a fondness for roses.

Photos taken in store of the Snow Gear Anna Limited Edition Pre-Order Display Doll. The first store I went to had about 7 adults waiting to pre-order the new LE Anna and Elsa dolls when the store opened at 10:00 AM. The store had 13 of each doll available, so it was no sweat getting both dolls.
Unfortunately the store did not have a LE Elsa display doll, nor did they have the pre-order placard to go with the doll. They placed the Anna doll on the check out counter, so I could take a close look at the doll and take photos. It was rather cramped quarters, so I didn't take long shots of the boxed doll.
They also had the Animators' Kristoff doll for sale. So I bought one of him, in addition to my pre-orders of the LE Anna and Elsa, and the pre-order of the Frozen Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.
I went to a second nearby Disney Store, looking to get a look at LE Elsa, but no such luck. They had already sold out of the Elsa, so they had taken the display doll down. They did have Anna still displayed, so I took a few photos of her. She was on a high shelf, so I could take decent long views of the doll and the promo placard. While I was taking photos of Anna, a person got the last pre-order available, so they took down the display doll and placard just after I finished taking photos.

As soon as I saw that the Cody and 501st helmets were restocked I ordered right away and I decided to pick up a Fives helmet too. Expect to see these in some upcoming builds.

Miltinus viduatus
Family: Mydidae
Order: Diptera
Midas flies are not frequently encountered and there are currently (Jan 2025) only 283 observations of the family on iNaturalist Australia.
Most midas flies are wasp or robber fly mimics and have abdomens striped in black, white and sometimes orange colours. They can be distinguished from robber flies, in the family Asilidae, by the 4-segmented clubbed antennae and by wing venation. The wing venation includes a spur vein in R3 - see the following link to Drawing.org:
drawwing.org/insect/miltinus-wing
The larvae of some species in the genus feed on beetle larvae including scarabs. Adults appear to feed on flowers.
The femura on the rear legs are very well developed compared with the other legs.
Males of M. viduatus are smaller than the females but generally similar in appearance. This one may be a female as it was taking a keen interest in some sandy ground where it may have been looking for buried larvae on which to lay eggs.
This image is a focus-stack of three handheld shots taken in ambient light using a 100-400mm lens on a Sony A7R. Aperture F5.6, shutter 1/250. ISO 100.
Etymology: Vidua is the latin word for widow - presumably a reference to the fly's predominantly black colouration - the colour of mourning

This was a custom order :-) She was sculpted out of paper clay and painted in several layers of acrylic washes. A little retro, a little steampunky I think. I plan to make a few more of these, perhaps a couple as a wedding cake topper :-)

This is one crazy composition of the late Wooster Collective building on Spring Street, taken in 2007. Now this building is remodeled to luxury condos - typical of the "New" New York.
