As we were crossing the Lamire Channel in Antarctica, these orcas appeared from nowhere and I was lucky to be on the front of the boat too. photograph them. The orcas are the top of the food chain, and kill even humpback whales. The elephant seals can dive deeper than the orcas so they are safe.
A lot of orcas were also feeding in the area, but the orcas and the humpbacks fish separately, and they use different methods.
The humpbacks are know to protect seals and dolphins from the orcas.

Who would have thought that we had a resident pod of Orca here in Australia. Located in the Southern Ocean, about 80 km south of Bremer Bay in Western Australia is the Bremer Canyon. This is home to a large pod of Orca. During the summer months the tour operators guarantee sightings. A great day out, as long as you don't get sea sick!

Jian's Orca's are wonderful. I got these when they first came out and loved them. it's always hard to incorporate fish into a photo sim so this is a nice way to do it. Also it's hard to time this, so they both go out of the water just as you take the picture. Now open - New theme for photography sim, Perpetuity maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Envylicious/76/193/25

This is the big male in a pod of 5 orca's watched them along side the boat for a couple of miles hunting the channel
Another erratic found at the top of this hill above Penticton, BC. There are 3 parts to the original rock; the 3rd part is laying down on the left. My brother-in-law is standing on another rock at the edge of the hill. The rock also looks like an orca spy hopping.

Had the great fortune to capture this Orca, which was a pod of 8, breaching right outside my home.

Bio: The orca, or killer whale, is a toothed whale that is the largest member of the oceanic dolphin family. It is the only extant species in the genus Orcinus. Orcas are recognizable by their black-and-white patterned body. A cosmopolitan species, they are found in diverse marine environments, from Arctic to Antarctic regions to tropical seas. - Wikipedia

This shot also shows the discolouration on the normally white parts of the orca due to diatoms in the Southern Ocean.

This is the view from the beach in April at Punta Norte, Patagonia, Argentina. This is the only place in the world where Orcas come on to the beach to try and catch Sea lion pups.

I had hoped to photograph sea eagles on ice floes, but at the time of my visit the sea ice had, unusually, not yet reached Rausu. The wonderful sight of a pod of Killer Whales more than compensated and was a completely unexpected bonus.
Just one week after my visit however, it would appear the floes caught these same whales by surprise and they made the news after reportedly becoming trapped in the ice, escaping a few days later:-
A beautiful pod of orcas spent quite a long time around our boat as we drifted in the Gulf of Alaska. We had spotted them a ways off and the captain cut the engine. The pod even dove under and surfaced so close to us that I only got partial pics with my 500mm lens. They are so beautiful. I was lucky enough to get several good photos.

I saw at least 3 Orcas coming through this passage. When you are on the ship's deck, you do not want to leave because of all the beautiful scenery and possibilities of seeing Orcas and Hump back whales!
So following on from my first post of Orcas I mentioned they put on an amazing display of breaching. Well here it is!
I appreciate not the best breaching photos you're likely to see but for me I couldn't believe my luck to not only see Orcas but to see them do this as well - mind blown!!

"The line_up is a paperwork series I developed since 2010. The“liners” are made out of paper (Din A3),
oil paint and graphite, the theme is the hermetical laws of polarity and movement. There is no ending and no beginning in any direction, just an endless movement. You have the possibility to arrange the papers like you want and that makes it an endless playground for my photo-work and the eyes of the viewers."

Despite of some Orca sightings in Vancouver harbor this year I unfortunately did not have this luck on my birthday's whale watching tour. So I had to put 2 photos from this day together to make my wish come true. Not with help of AI, good old manual editing work. I thought for a long time whether I should even post it...now you know my decision
