This very small spider found a meal. I'm always impressed by the fact that no matter how small a critter is, it always seems to be able to find a smaller one to eat. (Sometimes, though, spiders find bigger ones!)

I was with an friend that happens to be an Arachnologist when we discovered her. Very exciting find for both of us.
These are Orb weavers and make webs like the typical Garden Orb weaver does.

Have a nice day
The basketgrass in the yard is flowering now, and this very small spider is working in the very small flower...for Arachtober 15...
Closeup views - Got a chance to put the focus stacking to work in the wild and found these 2 interesting subjects. The first is a Tropical Orbweaver spider with some type of beetle.
In the last few days we've had several of these small spiders show up. For some reason we seem to have fewer spiders lately. We enjoy seeing the big Aurantia garden spiders, but we haven't had one in a couple of years...
A Tetragnatha for Arachtober 8. I wonder if this one has the highest leg/abdomen length ratio of all the spiders...
i will make some time tomorrow to catch up with Arachtober - I can see some amazing pictures in the pool

I've been swatching this little orchard orbweaver for days now, and this is the first time I've seen her with a catch...
The European garden spider (Araneus diadematus), also known as the cross orbweaver, can show a wide range of colours, from pale beige to dark brown or even bright orange like this one. In autumn, females sometimes take on this vivid orange tone as they mature and prepare to lay their eggs.
Found resting on a tree bark.
Love it when these little guys set up shop in the garden. Every once in a while I get lucky and can watch as they spin these magnificent webs...for Arachtober 24...
Spiders yeah, some of my favorite motifs even though I'm panic phobic about them... here is my first encounter with a Four-spot orbweaver... sitting on a bush behind the house knot here at home playing on its strings .. like.. ☺️😆 Seriously, a beautiful spider I must say... ☺️
She's gone now. I guess the cold nights were too much for her and I didn't think I would ever say Anything like this about a spider, but I do miss her! She really was pretty and Always right there so when I passed by on the way to the barn I always looked to see what she was up to. Maybe her babies will be around next year. I hope so!
I got only one good photo of this little spider, which immediately zipped up its line into the holly leaves upon seeing me. When I checked it out on the back screen of the camera and saw that shape on the abdomen, I suddenly felt lucky; this is only the third Butterfly Orbweaver I’ve found. If you study that shape, I think you can guess where the name came from. These spiders don’t get very large, and maybe that’s why I haven’t seen many, especially if they’re all as skittish as this one was.

Here's to a spooky Halloween. I don't think I can cope at the sight of the local kids in their masks and spooky costumes so I won't risk staying in tonight. Instead I'll venture out to a Railway photographic presentation. The wonderful Gavin Morrison will be presenting a show on the S&C line.
"Although their appearance can be rather intimidating, Orb weavers are very docile, non-aggressive spiders that will flee at the first sign of a threat (typically they will run or drop off the web). They are not dangerous to people & pets, and are actually quite beneficial because they will catch and eat a lot of pest-type insects."
