This gorgeous visitor was waiting for me on the front porch this evening when I returned from a poetry reading. No clue what kind of spider it is, but he's sitting in the center of a rather large web, waiting.

*Update. He's an orb weaver, probably Neoscona crucifera (spotted orb weaver)

The orb-weaver spiders are the builders of spiral wheel-shaped webs often found in gardens, fields and forests. The family is a large one, including over 2800 species in over 160 genera worldwide, making it the third largest family of spiders known.

This orbweaver decided to feast upon a cocoon and then rest on top of it during the day. I saw the cocoon on our lemon tree and was fairly sure it belonged to a kind of moth whose caterpillars rather harasses our tree (we have had a few munching it) but nature took care of this one!

When I walked under her web she fled into the trees. I managed to capture this shot as she escaped.

We saw this Spider on a walk this morning, in South Glenmore Park.

I see many Triangulate Orbweavers and most are easy to identify. This most closely resembles one but I'm not a hundred percent certain.

Better shot of the face of this guy, say cheese!

Spotted Orbweaver Neoscona domiciliorum male at the Buzzard Swamp in the Allegheny National Forest near Marienville, PA

I went out on the balcony to water the plants and nearly stepped into this spider's huge web. The size of this spider suggests it's female

This poor little Orb Weaver put his heart and soul into a new web and then this happened, ha ha

If anyone can identify the genus and species then this is information I would love to know!

Photographed in Lawachara National Park, Bangladesh.

He was just hangin around minding his own business....and I almost ran right into him!!!...The web was HUGE!!!....I think he's some sort of agriope!!!!....I just hought he was very PRETTY!!!

Two males approach a female. A third male is out of frame to the right but never really made an attempt.
